Wis adds to dialog too, I think. Int is VERY important to mages since it decides how many spells you can have (no limit at 19, I think...).
If you whant to be a mage, you should seek out Mebbeth pretty quickly. Or maybe you should try and get TWO lvl ups as a fighter (for the hp).

Übereil

That's just it, I made level 3 fighter before I left the Mortuary. I can't decide
whether to try for more levels fighter or make Nameless One a mage this time. It
is a hard decision. I played a fighter both times before, so I'm thinking of
trying something different this time. If I do decide to become a mage, I think
you are right I should do it as soon as possible.

I think I will go to the Dustman's bar and then go find Dak'kon and Mebbeth real
fast.

Shantara...

It's not that much different outside of combat - and not even vastly different in. I've gone almost entirely on building non-physical stats, but good old Nameless is a tough guy whatever class he is following, but with Magus Guard and the like it is possible to get a far higher AC far more quickly than as a fighter. Odd, I know

Combat won't get really nasty until later, and most of the time I really don't have to fight much, so it's not a huge issue.

Oh - and for LG, just make vows on everything you know you can deliver on

INT & WIS are both important in conversation - and so is CHA as it determines how charming you are. Plus, CHA directly affects the price you pay for things in shops. There is no such thing as a bad stat in Torment.

Gotcha, Elliot.

The information you provided helped alot. I think with what all of you have
said I will try Nameless One as a mage this time.

And thanks for the tip on how to become more LG. For some reason, I had tried
once before, but never managed to get there. I now know why. I didn't make the
right choices.

And thank you for the added info on Wis, Int, and Cha. I have always played with
a very high Wis, Int, but I've always left Cha lacking until close to the end.
Big mistake on my part. This time I am going to push Cha up with Wis and Int to
see what kind of difference I get.

To Shantara:

As you already know via my PM’s to you I forced myself to start a new PS:T game after I got so mad at it. I had to figure out how it played vs. other games like IWD and BG.
If you go Mage in my thoughts I don’t think you’ll need a CHA any higher than 16. As a Mage you can always use a Friends spell to beef it up to 2 - 6 points.
In thinking ahead too, I think it will behoove me to think about getting INT and WIS tattoos of some sort. I have no idea how high a level a character can get in this game, but I’m pretty sure the sooner you get things to 19 or better the better off you’d be.
I have no idea how right I am here, but that is my best guess after reading the game disc pdf file.

Fafnir, behoove what? I have no idea what behoove me means.

Thanks for the mage info. I appreciate it. I am pushing Int and Wis just as high
as I can. It paid off last time and I will do it again. It can't hurt a mage if
that is the route I decide to go since a mage gets more spells the higher his
Int.

I'm not sure about the Cha. I thought there was somewhere in the game that Cha
was really needed. Your friends spell may take care of that though for me. I am
still trying to decide. If you come across any other good mage advice keep me
posted.

And I am really glad you decided to join us again.

There ARE no level limits in Torment You'll probably finish the game around level 18-25 though, depending on how strong you feel like being by the end

Shantara - always fun to share info Everyone gains, which is always nice

Wait -- I thought Level 40 was the cap in Torment?

Geeze, this goes against my principes: Never make vows.
I never make vows since I don't whant to break them. I don't even whatn to RISK to break them...

But by this, do you meen: Make vows you know you CAN keep (eg not on Dheionara in the beginning)?

Maybe I'll have to start again (I'm in lower Ward, do you think I've got a chance to become LG yet?)...

I don't think I ever knew what the cap was in Torment. I do know that I didn't
even come near level 40 though when I finished both times. I think I was
somewhere in the 20's.

If the cap is that high, then I must have missed alot more stuff than I thought.
I will have to really watch it this time and see if I can improve on that.

I don't know about the level cap, but I do know after opening the

HPPRS.2DA
HPROG.2DA
HPWAR.2DA
HPWIZ.2DA

files that the HP cap is 20th level.

If Black Isle made it the same as BG then the XP cap, before TotSC add on, was 89k.

I really don't know Ubereil. Elliot might be able to tell you. I've never been
able to get a character to be lawful yet. For me Nameless One has always been
pretty much True Neutral. I guess I just didn't know the options to choose.
I didn't know about the vow thing either until Elliot mentioned it.

Do you think you will start again and go for it? If you decide to, keep me
informed as to what you do to get him LG.

This still doesn't say what the level cap is, but the last game I played of PS:T
Nameless One was level 33 at the end.

OK, I never could find where it told what the level cap was for PS:T?

Does anyone know where to find it?

Also Elliot, MysterD, do you remember what the highest level was that any of your
characters finished at? As I posted 33 was mine, but I know I missed some stuff.
So if you can remember I would like to know what your highest level for finishing
the game was.

MysterD...

Lvl 40 is the theoretical cap in Baldur's Gate: Throne of Bhaal. There is no level maximum in Torment. Not that anyone is ever likely to test it, I suspect, as that would be tedious beyond belief and involve clearing Undersigil about three billion times

That is exactly what I mean The other thing is Law = truthfulness in Torment, so be as straightforward and honest as you possibly can.

I certainly was - but it is in no way too late to become LG. Your behaviour throughout the game keeps moving your alignment from start to finish. I certainly wouldn't bother restarting

***

Shantara...

You probably didn't miss anything. A number of areas respawn monsters infinitely, allowing you to level up as often as you like - providing you don't mind the tedium...

In the original 4 disk box set, the manual clearly states that there is no upper level limit, which is how I know I've never got a Nameless past about 25th in practice.

Geeze, I didn't get as far as I thought...

And Elliot, I think I will have Nameless One suddenly turn into a completely honest and good person...

They say that virtue is it's own reward - but I rate being able to use the Tears of Saleri Dru and the best weapon in the game just a little higher as an incentive

I'm going to check the manual.

I looked through the manual, and in the charts for D&D Tables, it has 31+ as the last listed.

So, I wonder how far the "+" goes up to, since the cap is not listed in the book.

This might help, somewhat.

Now, about the cap, the rumor here is....

Is there an experience cap?

No, however, Huggies_Dragon informs me that the Nameless One no longer accrues experience points after 12,000,000. Besides, don't you have better things to do?

Heh. Well, I honestly don't see myself testing that limit. Ever!

Thanks for the info, MysterD
