Intel HAD a 64-bit processor called Itanium. It was a horrible piece of junk that ran 64-bit code very fast but 32-bit code was a disaster they couldn't get 32-bit to run higher as the equivalent of a 1800GHz (could be more). So Itanium was scrapped (a few weeks ago). Also the Itanium was more for severs then for desktops. Intel will release an other 64-bit processor that is compatible with AMD's 64-bit. But Intel was seriously caught off guard by AMD's 64-bit processor.

This give for me the difference between Intel and AMD

Intel was always searching for ways to up the GHz of the processors while AMD was looking for ways to do more with a slower speed. Intel has trapped itself in it own public relations. Intel PR was always saying the faster the better. Well guess what, they have serious problems to get CPU at higher speeds. This while AMD was looking at things like 64-bit and dual cores and guess what Intel is also going with dual cores. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
