Basicly the problem is that I can't play NFSU2 on the specs that were released. My laptop will still function as laptop but aided by the new PC for grafic applications like 3D max, vue 4,maya visual studio.net (seriously try runing 3dMAX on a laptop). I see in 3 years the new pc evolve to storage server in my network (thats why raid 5 idea in the future). My 500mhz is now my Linux machine, and my desktop AMD 1900 is server for splitting internet (and implemneting nat) / used by my parents.
server and parents don't mix. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" />
And i also have a preference to AMD since theire marketing makes more sence and intels hyperthreading isn't that great since it all depends on the branch prediction (And the prescot core is teh sck0r). AMD instead uses commens sence by implementing 64 bit and dual cores.
guess that makes me a AMD fanboy
Any sugestions on a grafic card nvidia prefferd

I prefer AMD too.
I did try a MAC with a Mot. processor once. I found out I do not like MAC's.

if money no problem get the bfg oc 6800, best card on the market right now. Or the underclocked reguler edition is about 100-200 dollers cheaper.

kyra's on the right track, morbo. let price be your guide. u have to have some kind of budget in mind before buying or else u'll have doubts & regrets later on.
morbo, FYI, my old system could run NFSU with Athlon 800MHz & cheapo Geforece4 MX440. of course now it runs better on Athlon XP 1800+ (chosen for OC ability).
heck, i read on Adrian's Rojak Pot site that even ATI cards can be OCed & some cards have been tested. so let's not condemn ATI too early yet.

One of those costs about 5000 kr (/8=$) and I'm up in allmost 10 000 kr wothout having speakers, motherboard, memory, soundcard, graphiccard, cd-rom, networkcard. And I'm not going to spend 1 kr over 15 000! And that's it! bereil

yeah .... either come faster or go faster. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
ube, since $$$ is of finite amount, then u should play it smart. just as i mentioned earlier, look into the motherboard that will last technologically 3-5 years os u won't have to sweat about major over-hauls. at the same time, choice of processor must be considered as important as that of the motherboard. other things will fall into perspective once u sort these 2 out.
if u can't get all the things u want, then work in staggered format or stage. all depend on your $$$ as well as planning.

i'm thinking of ASUS A8V Deluxe with AMD Athlon64 - 3500 http://nl.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?m=A8V%20Deluxe&langs=10so i'll guess I'll have to go SATA now but no PCIe <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> Maybe I should wait till januari of 2005 before buying (hopefully theire are new motherboards then). I'm supprised not that manny motherboards with 939 sockest have broken trough.(guess they first have to sell the 734 sockets) Motherboard wishlist: Raid GLAN PCIe 939 socket

Kr=kronor= the swedish currency (1 kr= around 8 $). One of those fancy best graphiccards costs around 5000 kr and I'm up in allmost 10 000 kr with what I've got, I don't have it all, and I can't afford ro pay over 15 000 kr. Do you understand what I'm saying?

so that makes 3276800 MB of ram <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Btw i am going to wait, I've heard rumours that AMD will slash it's 939 processors to "force" motherboard manufacturers to make more 939 compatible MB's. Isn't a free market fun. Hope Intel gets it stuff together to keep the prices low

Which has a quicker access time than other models. 3200 is not the actual amount of ram. Fafnir

http://www.tweakers.net/reviews/540/4 (in dutch) Has a nice pc for 2000 with some grooming(keyboard, mouse sound card, tft (i've got a 19" crt that is brand new)) of stuff I get from my old PC I can bring it back to "only" 1300. I am going to wait till februari to order my pc in the hope prices drop(so that a 939 mb becomes in my price range) and that maxtor will release it's native setrial ata with command queuind that allows DMA. Also I have my eye on a RAID 0/1/5 controllor that supports 4 ATA and 4 SATA HD's that means 8HD aprox 2 terra HD let me say W000000000000000000000000000000000000T to that <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" /> Future looks bright present looks dark and misty @bean: I see that most MB now have 3 or 4 memory slots How does work with dual memory (you can only use 2?), a bit hazy on that.

talk about the number 3200, it's not model number per se. it's some kind of ambiguous number system that confuses a lot of people about progression of RAM technology. SDRAM PC66 - 66MHz PC100 - 100MHz PC133 - 133MHz DDR-RAM PC2100 - 133MHz X2 PC2700 - 166MHz X2 PC3200 - 200MHz X2 any correlation between the numbers & the frequency for DDR? well for DDR, the numbers attached to the 'PC' are actually memory bandwidth. so PC3200 is actually DDR400 with 200MHz clock speed & the data bus of 64 bits & 3.2GB/s. Proofanyways here's a short story on RAM technology. refer to the links, morbo & be enlightened.

And Janggut, what about DRR2? A friend of mine (who did hold my hand when I was looking at computers on the internet. Speaking in metaphors, of chorse, he wasn't really holding my hand.) described it as being twice as good as DRR (a 512 drr2 was as good as a 1012 drr). More or less...
