Well at least you are sorted with a decent antivirus then...., If it comes with Pc-cillin internet security (its a 1 month trial), then speak to the guy in the shop, and tell him some bull@)#$*(#@ story of you have software that wont work with internet security... and ask him if he can just copy the installation files from an older version of pc-cillin(2002) to the computer... (thats the one with the 1 year free).... there are always ways to get past that.... but what i could find on the internet, it comes with the right version of pc-cillin Asus product guide look at the bottom of the page

when you boot your pc up, you should notice a icon in your system tray that looks like a read lightning bolt over a mouse. that would be pc-cillin
if that is not there, then just insert your motherboard cd, and look under utilities, you will find it there
hint of advice.... before you even start installing games or go mad on the internet, make sure service pack 2 is installed, and do all your windows updates... that will give you a good solid foundation to install other programs on

Sometimes Ube, when you buy a whole system, you don't get the software that is bundled in when you buy an individual component.

Even when you buy a complete system.... the driver cd's are COMPULSORY... they are not allowed to keep it back.
You should get cd's with the following in a computer.
Compulsory: Motherboard Graphics card CDWriter / DVD etc every peripheral card (like extra network card, modem, sound(even external sound) etc) Printers and Scanners (if you take that with the comptuer) External devices such as Harddrives / CD Roms (if you take external devices)
Hardware that sometimes have cd's with them: Monitor, LG, Samsung and LCD's are known to have, the rest more often doesnt have, but this is not a must. Keyboards with specialised buttons will have cd's with them Mice with specialised buttons will have cd's Some UPS's come with monitoring software
Windows operating systems, they HAVE to give you both the CD AND the cd-key licence sticker... (according to regulations you should stick this sticker on the computer, but i keep all mine in a file, since the licence becomes void if you remove it from the computer and put it on another.... what happens if you change your case?????)
all manuals and driver cd's they HAVE to give to you. The only companies that does not give this is packard bell / dell or companies like this, but they supply a "restore cd" which contains the fully functional and registered windows, with the drivers installed already. (personally i hate this)
your computer is what we call a component system (everything is not intergrated into the motherboard like packard bell), which means it will come with all the cd's.

And windows isnt always updated when you buy it....
When i send out computers to customers, i have installed the services packs, it is updated, with anti-virus, anti-spyware and all complimentary software and drivers installed....
but not all places do this.
Just ask when you pick it up.... and when you connect it to the internet, just check the windows updates, see if it finds anything that is not installed, and install it.
But when you pick the computer up, they will be able to tell you what they have installed, and what not.
BTW, i forgot to add to the list of cd's you must get
If you have a DVD / cdwriter, you must get Nero (normally) or adaptec easy cd creator as well as in the case of dvd roms a DVD player (normally power dvd)

Windows will not be fully updated when you buy the computer unless you are getting it from a local shop that gives really exceptional service.

Guess what I've got???
It seems like I've got all the important CD's (I think, there were a LOT of CD's) and they told me it whas fully updated. I havn't installed the cordless LAN yet (for ADSL), because I'm a little worried:
I DID get PC-cillin (with the MoBo-CD), but it wasn't installed. When I tried to install it it said: "Norton allready installed. Please uninstall it and try again." And the problem is: should I do it? If I should do it I should probably do it before I install my cordless lan (before that I have no internet-conection). If I decide to do it, is there any troubles I should be aware of (like lot's of tecnical/important questions in the installation)?
And: Where can I get Spybot/spywareBlaster/addaware and all those kinds of important programs? These are the programs I'll get the first second I get my internet-connection.

Übereil @ Ubereil You should not only write posts in the forum you should also read the posts from the other members. [color:"yellow"]Deathatthedoor gave the links for the web sites of firefox, ad-aware and spybot in this topic two days ago Barta! Nice to see you! Well, at least Nero rules! It's the best legal CD-burning program on the market. Pop-ups SpywareSpyware IIWell, installed PC-cillin and ran it. Took eight times less than Norton yet it found and exhumed a virus. [color:"yellow"]Kyra Ny also gave a link for the web site of Pop-Up Stopper in this topic @ Barta => Try looking here Barta: Pop-Up Stopper I use the free version and it works pretty good. Yes. You can uninstall Norton and should. BUT, Norton won't fully uninstall. To complete the task do it manually, following these instructions: http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,117824,00.aspYou also want Sygate firewall, downloadable from: http://smb.sygate.com/When you first go on the net leave the windows firewall on and turn it off only after Sygate is up and running.

Actually uninstalling only the Anti-Virus of Norton can allow you to safely install PC-cillin. I still have Norton Utilities installed on my computer.
