My biggest problem for the moment is that I keep on getting error when I try and update PC-cillion... Kind of a drag, since it's two years old... If anyone can help me, I would apreshiate it, since contacting Trend was pretty complicated...

Actually, if you searched their website, you'd find this: Problem: When PC-cillin attempts to do an update, either by Intelligent Update or by manually clicking the Update button, the message ActiveUpdate Internal Error 47 appears. Solution: During the update process, PC-cillin downloads the update files as compressed files. Then, it would decompress it on the system for PC-cillin to be able to use them.
The ActiveUpdate Internal Error 47 message means that the update files downloaded are invalid or corrupted. Read the solution to your problem here

It seems like everybody else is a lot better than me. I blame my parents...
You don't happen to know what to do to prevent your liks that opens in other widows to stop opening in reduced size (ie make it open in full window)? Cos this is seriouslly starting to piss me of. Not you though, I'm starting to like you. Not sexually, of corse...

DOnt add an aditional firewall.. pc cillin comes with a very good one already... the moment you connect to the internet, you will notice your pc cillin icon in the system tray changes to an "alarm bell"... that happens everytime it stopped an attack.

Yeah, thanks for telling me that NOW!
I've got a new problem: I've got two firewalls installed. Is it just to uninstall Sygate?

PS I think I'll install WC3 and try the old tutorial out... DS

Übereil Open a link and maximize the window. The next time you open a link it should go full screen. Get FireFox anyway :P. The PC-cillin firewall is a good one. Make sure you keep it.

It says I've got two firewalls active. WhenI installed Cleg's firewall windows sarted to ask me if I should let programs do stuff I told them to do (after clicking on a link internet is trying to open a new site. Are you SHURE you whant to do this??? Really annoying...).

Sorry. I didn't know you would already have a firewall with yourPCCillin. I would guess you need touninstall the Sygate firewall. You can only run 1 software firewall.

You can just uninstall the other firewall... there shouldnt be any hassles with this.
If you have Service pack 2 installed (you should if they updated your pc), youshould also go into control panel and click on windows firewall. Set it to be off (i know they say its not recommended, but pc cillin is a MUCH better one)
And no i didnt tell you pc cilling 2002 doesnt come with a firewall, i told you it doesnt come with anti-spyware built in (2005 / internet security does)
PC cillin is what i refer to as an "active firewall", it will allow all programs through, but will scan the incoming and outgoing packets for bad code... when it finds something like that, it will block it and keep a record in its logs. On networks, it will require you to add the ip adresses of the computers you consider trusted (anything else wont even be able to ping you). If you run DHCP on a network, you can add an IP range to allow the whole network to see you.
The advantage of this type of firewall is 1. It will block bad code even from trusted sites. 2. ALL programs will work with it (some firewalls have HUGE problems with programs like ICQ, MSN, mIRC, etc) 3. Your transfer speed doesnt get reduced (like with Windows firewall and (sadly) also older versions of sygate (the newer ones are also now active, but they only scan 7 levels deep in the packet, pc cillin scans 21 levels deep)) 4. Its very secure, since computers that is not in your trusted IP list, cant even ping you - YET it allows you to view and access any Web page / FTP location, while monitoring the packets 5. Because its active, when you get an attack on a certain port, it will block that port for a random timespan, BUT if you have any applications / downloads on that port, it will automatically remap that port to another port, so that your downloads / programs dont get interupted. With passive firewalls, an attack to a port result in an failed download, or a connection failure in a program.

Things you should do in Pc cillin (2002) to make it even more secure.
Open it up, and go to settings. Make sure everything is active in the "quick access" tab.
Then go to "virus scan" then "Manual scan" change the "action on uncleanable files" to DELETE (if you cant clean it you dont want to keep it in anycase, and since you dont have any viruses yet, it will keep them off much better than quarantine.
Do the same in "REaltime scan"
In "Internet Mail scan" do the same (change action on uncleanable files to delete) as well as take the tick out of "display notification" (there is an irritating mesage that will pop up everytime you check your mail - it also kicks you out of games) taking it off, will force it to do it quietly and leave you in your game.
In "Internet Securiy" -> "webtrap", enable the webtrap and also remove the "display notification" for the same reasons....
then you are all set and very secure <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

You don't need to remember anything as everything is recorded in text form: this is a forum :P.
The 2002 doesn't come with a spyware filter.

Now it's proved. I've GOT a SERIOUSSLY low connection. With a wire we'd got 7MB/s, with the wireless we got 160 kB/s-1 MB/s. There is somethign SERIOUSLLY wrong... We allso discovered we've got a router with max speed 54 MB/s and a wireless LAN card with top speed 11 MB/s (we've got a 50%-75% signalstrenght) (it's first now we realize this. There's a law in Sweden which says the seller HAS to inform his customers...). I'm going to ask the seller tomorrow what might be wrong, in the meantime you other pros might speculate a little in what might be wrong.

Well the 11Mb card is a clue already... remember that a lot of bandwidth goes to control packets, so your private Lan will consume a fair amount of that.... 50-75% is a little low already... so there are probably a fairly high packet loss % which MAJORLY affects any secure sites, and still affects the speed that other sites gets loaded at. (Secure sites will reload the whole section you are busy with, if it drops 1 packet, normal sites just have to stop and ask for a resend)
Please also note that the cards are measured in Mbps (Mega BITS per second, not Mega BYTES), so devide the Mbps by 8 and see the MBps (Bit is given in small b, Byte in capital B)
11Mbps = 11264 bps (Mega = 1024) = 1408 Bps (1.375 MBps) ( you wont get a connection higher than 1MB with this)
54 Mbps = 6.75 MBps (You can espect a connection of about 5 MB)
108 Mbps = 13.5MBps (very similar to normal wired LAN - Normal LAN is 100Mbps)
THe highest speed Wireless i am aware of, is 108Mbps (routers and cards), which is

@ Morbo Now that is a Dream Motherboard!!!!!!!! I went to look at the full specifications on it from gigabyte and its REALLY a top motherboard <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I told Andrew about it (hubby), and he promptly added it to his shopping list <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I dont think you will nead anything else soon in a motherboard, go for it.... Since you mentioned that you may have to wait a little to get it, i would suggest as much aswell... Its the first even AMD motherboard with PCI Express, so they may run into some hassles, 2 months and all that will also be sorted out and stable. (They dont recall the first release motherboards(unless the problems are very serious-only seen that happen once with Dell), but there will ALWAYS be plenty Bios updates to correct any problems they find in the first couple of months)
