I've hit another snag.

Like I said it my intention to convert this new PCtowards a file server wit 8 HD's. But what PSU(Power suppley unit) should I get 360W is delivered with the case itself but thats seems hardly enougs for 8 HD's (8HD = +/- 200W that leves 160W for CPU,GPU (eventually in SLI so 2 GPU's),fansn Optical drives). Now Is it possible to Buy another PSU and use it for just powering the hard drives. So 1 PSU for MB, GPU's, Fans and one for the HD's and optical drives. Would this work or will theire be difficulties?

If you look at the coolermaster "Stacker" case, it has space for 2 PSU's... so you can have 1 that only powers your HDD's and the other to power the rest....

Also you can get a 530w PSU.

530 is puny in the eyes of morbo. Just checked there are no problems by using 2 power supplies. W00t

@ morbo -> case modding!

morbo, is your mobo a big mojo? what i'm trying to ask is; your mobo full ATX or mini or micro? so long as there's space at the floor of the case, u cn always put the extra PSU there (double-tape it to the floor or whatever that works) & remove some slot covers for the power chord.

I like my cases to reflect me in this case Big and heavy

Check this monster out

530x205x650 mm (DxWxH)
Material: 1.00 mm SECC steel.

Will have to jerryrig the the case for a 2nd PSU but I am fairly confident I have enough room in the case to do that

Morbo, there's more than enough space to stack up three PSUs.

SLI shortcomings

Hmm maybe it aint that great but waiting for AMR MotherBoards is a delay of 3 months at least. And by then you can just as well wait till dual core CPU come out. Always so depressing to see a system seeing a sytem getting older.

I might be getting a Nforce Ultra instead and the X800 XL, since its a total of around 150-200 cheaper to get it, and its faster, since SLI seems to be both not real great, and X800 XL Cheaper and better.

Morbo, maybe u should just consider going for a Commodore 64 - bit.

or is it 64k?

oh well, it doesn't get more advanced than that.

edit: Morbo, some news for u. Anandtech has shown a way to mod NForce4 Ultra to NForce SLI. with a pencil.

a commadore 64 is ANCIENT... its long before even a 286.... it has the processing power of a video game (not Play station..... the FIRST video games, where you had the cartridge that you loaded with Mario bros etc).

64 k was the TOTAL amount of memory!!!!! and in those days that was HUGE!!!! now you cant even load a kernel file into it (the very basic operating system file, the base before your computer even says "loading windows")

I'd get a amd over intel for gaming, cheaper and faster. For half life 2 the amd 3000 was beat only by the 3.8 intel for fps. Also maybe a different graphics card? Maybe a plain 6800 or a 6600 256 mb. Thats all I can say for now.
