PNG is a lossless format, so is great if you are going to be editing the screenshots. It can achieve small file sizes in some cases (ie screenshots of standard Windows programs) especially if the colour depth can be reduced without requiring dithering. For photographic type images, however, you can usually achieve a much lower file size for a given image resolution, without a significant drop in image quality, if you convert the screenshots to jpegs.
