After 1 1/2 years of playing nothing but WoW I bought Oblivion and I am really enjoying it. I have a number of questions. I just saved Kvatch. No spoilers please if possible in your replies.
I'm playing an Argonian. To fight I use summon skeleton--conjuration, a one handed sword with shield--blade and heavy armor and restore health.
1. When I level up I always pump only strength, endurance and intelligence. Is that wise?
Looking at your skills I should say yeah, sure. But don't forget that willpower is important too for restoration and conjuration.
2. I have read somewhere that when you level up, all the NPCs in the game scale up too. Does that mean that there is really no reason to level?
A little bit yes. I don't really like the scaling part.
3. I had a message appear on screen that due to the amount of increased skill I have achieved in conjuration, I can now summon other entities besides a skeleton. How do I do that?
Buy (and thus learn) spells that summon other creatures. Check the Mages Guilds.
4. Summon skeleton is The Bomb! Very powerful and useful! Some elf race has the ability to call creatures to its aid. If you play that race and also take conjuration can you have 2 summoned creatures at a time fighting for you?
I'm not really sure. You can't summon two of the same kind, but I've never really experimented with conjuration.
5. How do I recharge a magical weapon?
Either you can pay for the recharge in Mages Guilds, use Varla stones (found in elven ruins), or use filled soul gems.
6. Can I fast travel between my location in the wilderness and the Imperial city and then back in order to sell off my inventory?
Yes, once a place is discovered you can fast travel back and forth as much as you like.
7. Is there a remedy for crashing to the desktop when I go through a door? This happens occasionally.
I don't know much about the technical aspects. Sorry. You could check the official forum. (You have to register to be able to use the search function though.)
8. For such excellent graphics you would think they would have done a better job with the jumping animation.
Hehe. Use first person so you don't have to see it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
7. How can I view my character from all angles?
Press and keep holding the 'Z' key (if that's the key you use to change from 1st to 3rd person) to see and be able to rotate around your character. Also, in your inventory screen, you can press and hold your character with the mouse button and zoom him/her and turn the character around.
Two handed: more damage, but block is less good (no shield). Because blocking is something you actively do in Oblivion (as opposed to Morrowind) I think this is a great skill, which is why I prefer one handed blades in this game.
9. Is there any mod that you really like and why?
The official plugins look great, but you have to pay for them.
Hope this helps <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />
