Well just to interject at this point, neither Divine Divinity nor Beyond Divinity Diablo is terribly similar to Diablo II. Beyond Divinity could be viewed as more similar though because it is roughly linear and the battlefield sections do play like Diablo II.
You could easily finish Diablo with no tactics. Diablo II actually made a demand of skill choices but in every iteration of the patch, there were always several abilities which would lay waste to every monster quite easily until the next patch would choose a different skill. A highly addictive game but never felt very satisfying.
The "Gamer" is the best judge of what? Do they have to be a paying customer or just some guy who downloaded it off the internet? And why do they want World of Warcraft specifically? I'm sure I could find many who don't like it like myself. I don't like the cartoonish graphics nor undoubtedly it's awful and nonsensical way of balancing that Blizzard has become accustomed to since Starcraft.
Anyway yeah I'd say Divine Divinity was more fun than Beyond Divinity but once chapter 1 was over in Beyond Divinity, it was entertaining.
