When I was smaller my mother never bought an "Adventskalender", she always made one especially for me. It was like 24 little socks( like the ones you hang next to the fireplace in America, just smaller) in red, with christmas-motives on them like angels, christmastree, snowman or santa.
In each one was something different, one day it was a little sweet, the next day it was something cute to put on the small branch of a fir tree in my room and the other day it was a little figure of an angel. I was really excited every morning when I got up and I couldn`t wait to look into the next sock.
In Germany we celebrate christmas on the evening of the 24th, so on the 23rd I went to my grandmother`s house and slept there, which gave my parents time to decorate the christmastree and wrap the presents. When I came home on the evening of the 24ht I was nearly exploding and I couldn`t wait to get into the living-room to see the tree and all the decoration, but I always had to wait with my grandparents in front of the door til my father rang a little bell, then I was allowed to get in.
Now I`m kind of grown out of it, in fact im 14 now and I help decorating the tree now. But I still love christmaseve as much s I loved it when I was smaller and I`m already looking forward it really excited again.
