please don't be harsh on people who give lousy gifts. most of the times, well according to my experience, they are just lousy at picking gifts eventhough they care. to tell u the truth, i feel that i am one of such people. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />
This is true (in general, not just you <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> ). It really depends on the source of the gift. Someone who knows you well should be able to get you something you can appreciate, even if it's not perfect. Perhaps, more to the point, you know what they meant rather than just looking at the crappy gift they gave you.
One thing that really helped me was a female friend of mine. She took me lingerie, perfume and jewelery shopping one day. She wasn't shopping for herself, she took me to teach me. (I was a naive boy whom she felt the responsibility to train.) The advice she gave has been invaluable in selecting gifts for people, and not just in lingerie, perfume and jewelery, but anything that requires a personal touch.
