The number of death people already went up to 65.000...

Like galadriel says, I think we should all donate some money.
The account number for the Belgian people is 000-0000012-12.

I know in America, on amazon.com there is a thing to donate money to help the people....

They just keep washing up ashore.

Glad you are well, Jang.

Hopefully the Indian Ocean countries will implement a tsunami early warning system like they have in the Pacific that apparently saves lives. Apparently up to a few hours of warning, depending on location, could have been given had such a system been in place.

They once started with that. But most countries in that region are poor countries. And a warning system isn't cheap. That's why only USA and Japan (joint venture) have one.
Also, some of the countries in the region rarely have to deal with nature wrath. They waren't eager to co-operate.
So the plan was put on hold and the money was spend on other things.

As they say its an unpresedented disaster (in the fact that its the most deaths ever as a result of 1 natural occurance)

And also there are still many areas they have not been able to reach yet.... my heart goes out to those affected....

Anyone saw the movie "The day after tomorrow"? I'm not saying that this will happen in one day, but something similar may happen in the following 100 years. The many hurricanes in America last summer, the warmer winters in Europe, the many unexplainable distasters that occures lately... We have ruined Mother Earth and she is sick and tired of us exploiding her!! Beware the wrath of Mother Earth!!
We should treat her with more respect!

Hey all i would like to take this opportunity to guilt you into doing something to raise funds for these people. I am currently working on setting up a dinner to raise money and if it goes as well as I hope I could make upwards of 25,000 on the dinner alone. If you work for a big company or something this could be something you can do or if you work for someone that has a strong tie to the community and can get out and ask for donations please do.

All told when I finish organizing all the things that I would like to I *hope* to make 30,000$ to give to the red cross.

If you want help or ideas or anything email me as I am only on the board sparsley these days.

Not interely true though, I live from one day to the other and I try to get the most of my day. Sometimes I wish there were more than 24 hours in one day but on the other hand, I like to sleep also. I cherish every day because it could be my last, but I'm a real optimist, my glass is never halfemty but always halfful. I see in the worst things still something good but everyone can have a bad day too. That is why I like this forum so much, it's full of nonsens

That is enough to bring tears to anybody's eyes

At least the death figure has been standing still for the last 2 days.... and i am hoping that they dont find too many more... i hope they find more survivors from now on...

And the threat of more earthquakes are still there

Those things make you think about how tiny we are. We can fight lots of diseases and we fly to the moon, but disasters like these we can't fight. In those poor countries, the people there don't have anything and still they are always the victims of disasters like these. I do hope we can collect as much money, food, clothes and medicines as they need and hopefully the death can be baried in decent way, like in their culture's way.
I lit some candles for them, donated some money and tomorrow I will give away all the clothes that I don't need anymore. It's the least I can do but it's still not enough...

I was mistaken about the deathtoll... it has gone up in the last 2 days... its on 141 000 according to CNN

There was talk about a second earthquake registering 7 on the scale... but i cant find any online news reports of that, so i am hoping that our radio stations were mistaken...

Edit: And later found it
here

Its brief, and aparently were not felt on the islands, but was recorded at 6.5. THank heavens there were no resulting tsunamis again

sadly this isn't over yet. many are displaced & while there are those who are better off can cope with the financial loss, most cannot. what we can give may only help them to tie things over for a short while .... unless we make it a point to have some kind of foundation to help the impoverished get up on their feet & live life as close to normal as possible.

@ galadriel -> to know that u've done a lot & still trying to do more warms my heart. truly, what u have given WILL help those in need. i hope that the wealthier countries in the region (malaysia is one of them, for sure) will contribute to building a warning system. & as for indonesia, which is no stranger to earthquakes, i hope they will complement their early warning system with one that detects tsunami.

to all, do not despair. let not your hopes falter. be who u always are; shining light upon candles. yes, a breeze can easily blow out flames but the surrounding ones will light up them up again. we must be like that. we cannot help the dead but we can do something for the living. & what i can see as silver lining in this tragedy; humankind mobilising to help one another, irrespective of race & creed. this may be what we need to repair the damage done by war.

this tragedy doesn't reduce humankind. it doesn't render humankind to despair. more than tearing us apart from loved ones, it binds us all together.

this is the blessing in disguise. humankind will prevail.

@ Nero -> bless your heart, ol' boy. God bless your efforts.

sadly it isn't over obviously...

and sadly there are a number of people (much more important than dead one) that is never given it is the number of people who survived with losing every few but life into this thing... some about 5,000 thousands of people are no more than refugees now...

maybe it's worst than death for them... one generation entirely sacrified maybe 2 in some countries...
sad thing in countries that didn't need that and prevention system wouldn't have prevent this even if it MAYBE would have prevent a part of the deaths...

there is worst than death sometimes...
