My favorite places in the world ( continents ) are North America ( I like my home and canada ) Europe ( I have visited Germany ( drove through ) Belgium, some buisness, holland, vacation, england, for a day or 2. ) and africa ( south africa ).

Can't say much about Asia since I was only in the middle east and only for a bout a day while waiting for a late plane.

But every country, nation, and continent has its own special things about it.

Never been out of Europe acually... (Un'ess you count the Canarians, wich actually belongs to Africa... I was there when I was five btw.)

Been to Denmark, Norway (for a day...), Finland (Åland, island between Finland and Sweden, counts to Finalnd), Germany, Holland, Belgium, France (drowe through ALL of them, exept Holland, where we slept in Eindhoven, and all this to be able to go to), England (southen England. Nice country) and Austria (Vienna this summer. Nice palce too. As mentioned I liked the arcitecture but not the sallad ). That's about it. Since Sweden is the only place I've spend some longer time in that's my favorite country.

I think there is something VERY unique about europe..... something i would LOVE SA to get..... but alas, we still stuck without it....

IKEA...

Yea you read right... the company...

But aww well, there is nothing that a credit card cant fix... and since there are 2 pilots in my family doing international flights..... they can just play postman

(SA is sadly still stuck without a DECENT, yet cheap living accesories company )

IKEA might be cheap, but decent? (I COULD say, of chorse it is, I mean it's SWEDISH but I won't.)

You have to put everything (ok, most things) together yourself, and most parts won't fit (once, we even had to use the SAW in order to get it together). So, maybe you just save yourself from a whole lot of headache. But on the other hand, maybe not...

Ubs, you want me to send you some DIY stuff made in SA????? You will praise IKEA afterwards....

I must admit, i have never had any problems with the stuff i bought from Ikea.... nothing more major than a missing screw..... and those i have a shed full of

I love the paintings and kitchen stuff they have.... furniture, i tend to have made to specification (cupboards etc) and lounge suites etc is just too big to import.... those we have very good manufacturers of in anycase

I am really sorry but i don't like IKEA.
It is cheap furniture but it is also a very low quality furniture.
In France IKEA just want to make money.
They open their shops on sundays although it is illegal in our country.
Of course their employees have to work on sundays and they can't spend a nice sunday with their family and their friends.
I never bought things at IKEA !

Yes except for the food shops which can open on sunday morning and for the shops selling "Souvenirs" and this kind of stuff to the foreign visitors.

On sunday french people use to go to the church, they use to have a nice family meal and then they spend their free time with their family or their friends.

So instead of a hectic day of work they'd go to Churuch, then have a meal with their family and/or friends, then go out an do something togeather.
Sounds nice, in a way.

Until a few years ago shops here in germany were only allowed to open until 18.30 PM, Saturdays until 14.00 PM (I think). Sundays never. Then, an experiment was started : Thursdays shops can be open until 21.00 PM. Now, things are that shops canm open until 20.00 PM every day - except sundays, of course.

But in fact, shops rather to close whenever they want to. So it became more confusing. Especially on Saturdays, when they are allowed to open until 20.00 PM , too, but close very often about 16.00 PM , an almost "traditional" time (like the infamous traditional closing time Saturdays on 14.00 PM, which is often used even now).

My sister likes Ikea. She's often there. And I've assembled several pieces of furniture from Ikea for both my parents and my sister so far. (It's me if they need one ... )

Yes, that's how it's meant.

Hm - IKEA is a profit oriented business ands wants to - and does - make money anywhere it is represented.

And it does so, because a lot of people buy there - so obviously not everyone shares the same universally bad view on their products with you...

So it probably is like everywhere - there are good things and bad things. And there is the question of individual taste and preferences.

Buying at IKEA is a mass behaviour. Just like to go and see a commercial movie.
People buy things at IKEA just to do like their neighbours.
The products seem cheap when you buy them but because of their low quality they are broken or unusable very soon.
Finally it's not so cheap !

For opening on sundays they have to pay a money punishment (i don't know the right word).
But they don't care because they get a lot of money by selling on sunday, a lot more than the punishment.

It is bad for the other furniture shops. In french it is called "concurrence déloyale".
Another company tries to do the same thing, it is Virgin.

I don't like this company as other people don't like some President.

Yes it's nice for the parents to share some free time with their children or for good friends to play football together or to go to the cinema or to do anything else.

If the people do shopping on sundays they will not do shopping during the week and the shops will not be richer.
Working on sundays only ruins the family life !

"a money punishment" = a fine

Before Sunday shopping was legal here, we also had some shops that found it more profitable to stay open pay the fines...
