When I stop playing Divine Divinity why does it take so long for it to fully shut down?
Is it because it has loaded everything instead of sections?

How long is 'so long'? The game itself did not take that long to shut down for me, though it could take 30 seconds or so for the used memory to be completely freed up. The game does keep track of a lot of stuff, so I assume larger continuous regions are at least part of the reason for that.

Well, compared to every other RPG I’ve ever played Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity take the longest to shut down. Yes, as you mentioned, about 30 seconds and it’s really no big deal, but I was curious as to why it takes so long compared to all the other RPG’s out there that only takes about 5 to 10 seconds to shut down.

Please, don’t get me wrong, I’m only curious in a technical sense.
For example, maybe the code for DD was written in VB and not C++
or is there a totally different reason.
I am not complaining.
I love DD with a passion. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
I only wanted to know more. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thank you Raze for your response.

DD and BD both have a more interactive environment than most RPGs, which the games need to keep track of. If you move chairs around or drop loot, etc they will remain that way when you return. There may be other factors, but the additional bookkeeping the games do (environment, NPC status and location, object status and location) means there is additional cleanup when the game exits.
Other than that, your guess is as good as mine (except that the games were done in C++ and not VB).

That's what I was wondering.
Thank you for the reply and your time.
