Why is it called 'Football' in America when for 10% of the game they run around with it in their hands? The other 90% of course is them standing around between plays chatting about who has the biggest jockstrap!

I guess knot. Otherwise it wouldn't be American Football.
In Germany Soccer is highly popular. Like American Football in America, maybe. (Except Canada and Mexico, maybe, I don't know how popular it is there.)

@ Alrik: Football is pretty popular in Mexico, but in Canada they only care about ice hockey.
@ Spick: It's because Americans have really good confidence. In respect for the Americans on this forum I won't say anything more.

Ice hockey is quite popular here in Germany, too. Not as popular as Soccer, though ...

Yes... I have a Belgian ID... now. But I been close to having an Italian, an English, a Danish, ... I been around.
And yes, Very good Swedisch soccer players here. All over Europe for that matter.
They have a great national team too. Mind you... the new generation isn't so good as the ones from a few years ago.

Ofcourse I know. But a few star players don't make a team.
The players have to play well together. They need a "team spirit". Most players these days are more busy with the millions they make than with the game.

"Football" is Australian Rules Football. Red pigskin which is passed and kicked back and forth up and down the field. The goal is to kick the ball through the posts at teh end of the field. "Rugby" is the game with a lot of tackling. The goal is to touch the ball on the ground over the line at the end of the field. "Soccer" is the international favourite with the round white ball with black spots. The goal is to kick the ball into a tiny net. "Grid Iron" is American football with full padding and plays and such. Similar to Rugby.

@ Alrik: Football is pretty popular in Mexico, but in Canada they only care about ice hockey. I have to disagree with that, while it's true canadians don't care about soccer (I do though, played for two years when I was younger, got a gold medal as a goaler!) We have our own football league, with slightly different rules than american football which IMO makes the game funner. Even though it definetaly isn't as popular as american football, it's loved by most canadians.

Yes, that's what I thought. But hockey still is the major sport by far. It's a bit like GB and football (still soccer). There ARE other sports, but by far football IS the major sport.
