Actually I had directx 9 already on from windows update, but I went ahead and dl'd and installed 9c, and game resolution was set to match desktop.
I do like the directx diagnose command you mentioned that I did not know and will come in handy for future system checks.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to view any of the vids.
In preparation for installing <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> I upgraded my video driver, nvidia geforce(old), I doing so I managed to knock out my direct draw thereby disabling all my other games! DOH!
Luckily I was able to mend back to previous driver. So at least I can still play <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> & D2, my old faithfuls.
Thanks for the suggestions I think I am going to quietly wait for my next power gaming system and so I don't inadvertently push my current system into a deeper depression from which it may never recover, hopefully I won't have to be sad for too long <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />
