I try to go into an elevator and press' up' and it crashes and says "general protection error" and every time I do this it happens.

The splinter cell site suppourt sucks, and when I try to install patch it says version number not found!!!

Sounds like a dodgy install. I'd try reinstalling with a full install if possible.
