Common things that will cause windows installation to crash...

Memory
If you have 2 modules in, try either swopping them around with each other, or removing 1 and install windows. very often small memory differences can cause HUGE errors, when windows is loaded, it has its own parity checking built in, but not during the installation

IDE cable.
Try pluggin in a different IDE cable, or plugging the IDE calbe onto another port. an IDE cable can have a break on it, too small to cause a detection error, but intermittent enough to cause corruption on an installation.

Hard drive
It may also be that the hard drive is faulty / overheating. While copying the files, feel on the smooth side (not the pc board side) if its getting very hot.

CPU overheating
as soon as it crashes, reboot and check the CPU temp in the bios... anything over 70 Celcius can cause errors.

hope this helps.
