Thanks for the replies. It appears to be that Morrowind is the culprit. I have had 2 more freezes which occur only when MW is running. One of the freezes gave me a blue screen STOP error which seems to be a typical issue according to the Elderscrolls forum. So I will update my drivers, etc. Personally I think it is really dumb that a computer which far exceeds the recommended specs would have issues that lock up my computer. I had no trouble with Oblivion. And although the freezes are new, I have been getting error messages often with MW when I exit the game. I just ignored them since they didn't affect gameplay. When I think on it -- MW is the only game old or new that has had this kind of effect on my computer. Stupid game!
