Cleanliness

for chinese who are normally superstitious, sweeping dirt out of the house is a big NO-NO. how do they sweep then? first they sweep into the house, then collect the dirt in the pan & finally dispose them into a trashbag.

reason? sweeping out of the house means sweeping all the luck or joss out & this also means sweeping out all the incoming luck. this is why no sweeping OUT. just sweeping IN.

since Chinese New Year is around the corner, there will be no sweeping for 15 days. yep, the reason is that the festive season is the time the gods are visiting & all the luck that comes with the gods are not to be swept away. please note that this may be the only time chinese are at their dirtiest! even housewives & housemaids need breaks! chinese calendar is lunar so that's why Chinese New year celebration is at the duration of a moon wax/wane.
