A text I finished just a few minutes ago in a different forum :
About that "stupid posts" thing :
It's actually a plague. Or is it natural development of boards ?
Actually, I'm ctive in several very different boards, andin recent times I noted an increasing amount of "stupid" posts and spammers. Everywhere.
Forums which have been cosy and friendly get eroded by spammers and people posting ... well, trivial posts.
But that'snot the worst thing. The worst thing is the inceasing amount of aggressiveness (does this word really exist ?), and the vanishing of high standards in Forums.
I mean that In knew two or three forums where it hs been ... well, "cosy" is the best word I know for it. Friendly as it sghould be : people helping one another, being friendly, discussing on sophisticated topics, even philosophy sometimes. Too good to be true.
I'm just puzzled where this high amount of spamming and "stupid" (as I would call it, because it rarely has any special intention and meaning) comes from. Is thiseven the natural evolution o all boards i this world ? Or did someone enter such a board with the thought "this tick; let's create some chaos there" ?
What I do note is, however, that such a way of posting implies n underlying different forum-culture. Please keep in mind that every Forum has its own - individual- culture. Therefore in theory every forum can be judged from its own culture. A Forum about classicval music (Bach, Beethoven Händel for example) will create a *very* different culture than a forum dealing with war games. It's just the way it is.
The interest - or rather the theme - that is the underlying basis of a forum creates the "mood" of the forum by attracting people through its theme or its Leitmotiv.
That's what puzzles me now : What is the underlying culture of people posting in a certain way ? I don't know.
All I can see that worldwide the forums change ... more and more spamming comes into them, and more and more aggressiveness.
About older Forummembers : older ones have some sort of priviliges, but are not at all standing beyond measure.
Me, I'm one of the oldest forummembers in a certain forum. I know that. The people know me for being able to post both philosophical topics like as well [nocando] almost senseless stuf (like a jester) at the same time.
Nevertheless I believe that I must try to be polite to *everyone* : A community consists of its members, as someone posted in the above mentioned forum a few days ago, so a communizty without members is nothing.
The members make the "mood" of a forum - and in the end they forum the specific culture of a forum. So, if I try to be polite, try to help newbies, these will find a forum where I'm in to be a good place. If I greet a newbie with cynical words, or even by mobbing, then they will stay out - but all what I've posted will be also be read by others and be reflected back on me.
The other readers might thik that if I dare to post in such an unpolite way, the others might be allowed to do so as well - thus resulting in an overall unfriendly culture, where newbies are rather thrown out instead of greeted with a welcome.
Within such a community, such a mood of unpoliteness might influence the community itself - thus creating an unfriendly athmosphere within the community itself. People will or might start to atack one another, write cynical remaks, tease others or simply try to finish them off.
That's the influence a community / forum gets by the acting of its members. So be careful !
Well, I'm exhausted of writing now, and it's late here in Germany now, o I'd better stop writing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
