I have the answer to your ancient chinese artists that never painted the feet of a woman....
In the older days in china, it was believed that a woman's feet should be small. The smaller the feet, the "better looking" the woman. If a woman felt that her feet were too big, (or someone in the family felt that way) the woman's feet were BROKEN and bound back with a special shoe, so that when the bone heals, it heals in a crooked, but SMALLER!!!!
So after doing that a couple of times... a woman's feet were never a very nice sight... but as long as it was small, men were happy!!!!
