That's one of the latest. They also use this one.

The Spanish flag has suffered various changes over its history. Under Franco's dictatorship the flag lost the colour mauve appearing on the Republican flag, and incorporated two important symbols, the eagle and the shield of the Catholic monarchy.

In 1977, two years after Franco's death, the eagle was slightly modified, and in 1981 it would disappear completely, leaving the current red/yellow/red with crowned arms.

Hmmm. I looked all over for some interesting facts about Spain but didn't have any luck. Sigh

More than 700,000 people work in London's banking industry - more than any other city in the world.

Istanbul is the only city that resides on two continents; Europe and Asia.

Tokyo has more neon signs than any than city in the world.

According to NASA - the U.S. has the most violent weather. In a typical year, the US can expect some 10,000 violent thunderstorms, 5000 floods, 1000 tornados and several hurricanes

As strange as it may be, Antarctica is essentially a desert of snow and ice with a total annual precipitation of approximately only two inches.

While the state of Minnesota is known for its 10,000 lakes, the country of Finland contains 187,888 lakes.

There are some 81,000 islands off the coast of Finland, 20,000 of which comprise the Finland Archipelago.

Indonesia is comprised of 13,667 islands.

While Warsaw, Poland has the largest Polish population, Chicago, Illinois boasts of having the world's second largest number of Polish residents.

All the cell phones used around the world in one day produce less electric impulses than a single human brain for the same period.

In Iceland, there are 210 000 cell phones in use for a population of 250 000 inhabitants.

The Nunavut Territories in Canada are about 2 million square kilometers wide; on this territory live less than 30 000 persons and more than 300 000 cariboes.

There are no self-service gas stations in the states of New Jersey and Oregon.

It is not uncommon that some spotted hyaenas tear out and eat some car pieces.

Hyenas can comsume prey carrying anthrax without contracting the disease itself.

Thomas Harvey, the pathologist who made Albert Einstein’s autopsy in 1955, stole Einstein’s brain and put it in a jar. He kept it in that jar for himself during 43 years (sometimes giving pieces of the brain to promising researchers), before finally giving the jar to the pathology department of the University Medical Center at Princeton in 1998 (Harvey was then 85 years old).

There have been 5 biological crisis bringing massive extinctions in the history of Earth. At the two firsts, during the primary era, 70% of all species disappeared; 90% disappeared at the third, marking the transition from the primary era to the secondary era. The fourth crisis, at the Jurassic period, was much less catastrophic. The fifth one, at passage from the secondary era to the tertiary era, has been the one where the dinosaurs and a large part of the marine vertebrates disappeared; the diversity of the insect species wasn’t affected by that massive extinction. These biological crisis were most likely caused by natural catastrophies (like meteor collisions or gigantic volcano outbursts).

Better enjoy that one while it last. Since Bush wants to destroy their habitat in Alaska probably most of the cariboes will disapear.

The flag of mexico shows the sign of an old aztec (?) legend : The town should be founded at a place where an eagly sits in a cactus, eating prey. That's how I have it in my memory. The archaeologists don't know where the aztecs come from, but they themselves say that they were a wandering folk who evenztually settled down in the later Mexico City.

In January 1994, 'The Economist' magazine reported that one of Secretary of Energy Hazel O'Leary's success stories about government research scientists hired out for civilian business uses was the Argonne National Laboratory's helping McDonald's to find a way to speed up french frying. A team headed by physicist Tuncer Kuzay, who interrupted his work on advanced photons, placed sensors inside the frozen fries and was able to design special frying baskets to deal with the effect of steam created by melting ice crystals and to cut 30 to 40 seconds off each batch's frying time.
