1. try uninstalling it in safe mode with no connection to the internet.
2. I dumped McAfee--had problems with it and Norton is AWFUL.

http://www.free-av.com/ Download this and have it ready after the uninstall. Trend Micro--already mentioned has a good rep--never used it myself though.
