The Secret Race
Hello, everyone.
A long time ago I formulated a theory about a "secret race" in Rivellon.
It was based upon two facts :
- the layout of Aleroth - the Council of the Seven
At a time there must have been a time with all seven racesfrom the council living in relatively peace together - otherwise the Council would not have formed, I assume.
The "races" are :
- Orcs - Humans - Dwarves - Imps - Elves - Lizards - Magicians
Why the Magicians are in, that's a special story. Zandalor has explained that they were actually sort of a creation of a Goddess - you can read it in oneof the numerous book within Rivellon.
The layout of Aleroth shows this : There are Healers of the
- Elves (Lanilor) - Dwarves (Otho) - Humans (actually 3 of them : Joram, Mardaneus, George) - Lizards (Goemoe)
Missing are :
- Orcs - Imps
The number of houses in Aleroth is 9.
The number of healers present in the time of is 6.
We can assume, that the people buried in the cemetary could have been healers, too, or people who couldn't be healed. Or relatives of the healers or the patients.
Jake is a special thing : He could have been a healer, too, especially since there is a special house with a cellar leading to him. He's undead at the time of but could've been a healer as well - otherwise he wouldn't have lived there, I guess. Why he's undead is open for speculation ... cursed by his wife ? By a lost patient ? Wanting to become some sort of Lich ( an"eternal healer" maybe, no matter how weird this might sound) ?
Counting Jake as well- whom I beliebve he has lived there at one time - the number of healers is 7.
This still leaves two houses free : One for an Orc healer and one for an Imp healer. 9 houses, 9 healers.
However, what is still unclear is why there are so many human healers. They are the majority there. We actually get to see only two towns with other races than humans as the majority : The Elven village in the deep south of the Forest, and the Dwarven Halls. Apart from that, we also have the dwarvih village which is actzually part of Rivertown, although its set apart a bit.
Thinking that, we could assume that any town in Rivellon could have a different race as the majority, not just humans. So why not Aleroth ?
Assuming Jake didnt like in Aleroth, the number of houses is 8, one without a race. Also, we cannot assume that the number of humans in Aleroth has always so high as in the times of .
My theory is, that the number of the Council of the Seven exactly mated the number of Healers in Aleroth.
But assuming this, it leaves the question open : Why 9 houses for 7 members ?
There are two missing.
As I posted this idea the first time, I didnt have Jake in mind. So the number was always 8. This implied - in my theory - a missing race.
From that point of view I was not surprised that in a new race appeared : The Raanaar. They could have fit the role of the Secret Race perfectly - although the houses were too small for them.
Also new is this idea : The only sophisticated beings in and around Rivellon are the races of the Council of the Seven - with one exception : Dragons. There is at least one dragon near Rivellon ( I mean the Patriarch), and since dragons are capable of speech, magic and high standards of civilization (a very different kind of it, though), a dragon could also fit into the role of a healer in Aleroth. The only problem is the ego - dragons are normally too proud to spend their time with members of weaker beings. Except the Dragon Riders which work for the Black Ring. We cannot say for sure whether these dragons have a sophisticated culture of any kind - we simply have seen no signs of it (except the Dragon Cult [Quest by Alrik, the head of the Warriors Guild ] ) .
So, as a conclusion, I just assume (and suggest) that there might appear some Raanaar in DD2 : One of them is a dedicated healer in Aleroth. The only problem consists of the height of the buildings there.
For DD2 I wish to see - as a suggestion - the healer town of Aleroth filled with representants of all of the 7 races - plus one more : the Raanaar. Since his death, Georges house is empty, but in the Divination event during almost all healers were killed. There must be new ones, then.
One Magician (not neccessarily Zandalor) One Imp One Lizard One Dwarf One Elf One Orc One Human (well at least one) and maybe one Raanaar.
However, we still cannot be sure that there arent som more races lurking around Rivellon ...
This is my conclusion over this treatise called Th Secret Race.

Very intersting theory. There still could be a race in the mountains (near the council chamber) maybe some winged race.

trolls, they might not be the nicest of creatures but they have a king so some form of civilisation is there, wether they have any magigical powers of the healing sort remains to be seen, but, a troll could be there protecting aleroth because one of the healers saved its life? mabey? or just because it is a nice troll, they could exist - polymorphed paladin anyone?

Trolls ? Makes some sort of sense, although they are rather shown as barbaric beings (there is a *very* old Wallpaper somewhere which reads that they are even eating flesh).

hmm we assumed the symbol of the transporter in the council of seven was of the council of seven.
All other transporters are connected to a race except that one.

MAYBE THERES A RACE THATS BEEN CVROSSED BETWEEN TWO OTHER RACES!!!
for example an elven lady and a dwarven man having reiieieieierrrrreeeieie thats has disappeared because of the newly existing rivalry between the two original races

Hmm... There is this dwarf... He suggests that the trolls should have been included, that humans(?) shouldn't be so harsh on them, but rather try to integrate the brutes in a peaceful society. Or some such. Could be trolls. They're big too, though. And besides, I still can't kill mountain trolls at will, so I'm not sure I'd let those inside the gates of Aleroth just yet.

Yeah it's a very intersting theory you got there Alrik
It's not the undead then? Beneath Alroth there WAS some speaking skeletons.(some-how there is only human skeletons...) Maby Jack was no healer, he maby was some one who died there, (maby it was no cure)
Since DD1 ^^

There are still statues of creatures standing around ... of creatures of which we don't know anything. I mean these big things which look like oversized rats or so ...

Youre right I guess, but the Damned could exist though, and in fact the dragons could be the start of it. Here let me explain:I am sure you all are familiar with the story about the Tower of Babylon; people were arrogant and they thought they could reach the Gods by building a tower, and as a result they were punished. So, what I am getting at here is that arrogant creatures such as dragons and dragons themselves could, and most likely will suffer this fate; for an aggorant act against the Gods they get cursed and thus, they hereby become the Damned.

Are you trying to say that there should be an undead council member?? Having an undead council member wound be pretty cool but if there was one what would he be, like and a skeleton, but of what human, imp, etc.

I have a lot of ideas for a new race and here it is -Dragons, Ogres, Dark Elves, and um well kindda a mixture of a skeleton form of an Imp with wings, not a gargoyle skeleton well yes a gargoyle skeleton but a tiny miggit looking one that talks like a imp though cause they talk fast and very funny
