The Belgium people learn Dutch and French at school.
Why do they talk only in Dutch in one part of Belgium and only in French in the other part of Belgium ?
Well I leared chemestri at school to but my knowledge of Chem has deminish (ty teacher for an easy exam)
I think you greatly overestimate the French knowledge of the Flemish. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />
If you have ever heard me speak French you would ask me to stay away of the French forum.
I'll make a rough translation of what I said on my French exam (the teacher told me what I said)
It was basicly something like
agree not we but you me not is true bad. (yes I was ashamed at the time thank god my written exam was much better)
Personally I like the Brussels dialect it's a strange mix of French and Dutch that everyone understands (the Flemish and the wallonie)
It's kind of like this:
Flemish people don't want to make a fool out of themselves so they see French as a last resort while the French speaking part don't want to make a fool out of themselves so they see Dutch as a last resort.
Basicly understanding and talking/writung are 2 seperate thing.
