It's also scary in other languages. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

I've once heard Derrik in Chinese ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

@Stone : The mother of my father came from Hessen, from the Westerwald, to be more exact area of Westerburg (north of Hessen). She spoke an dialects that is still known there.

But even worse : She had a mixture of this and of the "Bergisch Platt" with her, a Dialect that is known from the "Bergisches Land" which is located east of the Cologne area. Her husband came from that area, that's why. The problem is, that I'm not sure what exactly she spoke. Her own dialect was mainly influenced by her own dialect (Westerwald), but also mingled with the Bergisch Platt. She süpoke a mixture of both, and that permanently, I guess.

My mother came from Bavaria, and her mother came from Schlesien. I know at least three dialects, plus the one of Leverkusen, where I live (seems to me to be a mixture between Cologne dialect "Kölsch Platt" and Bergisch Platt).

What I don't know is the Schlesisch language. The mother of my mother speaks it well, still, but not to us, because we haven't learned it. In Leverkzusen there is quite a community of people from there. Their favourite products are the "Schlesische Würstchen" (Schlesische sausages) and some bakery.
I've once read a book with Schlesisch tales (mostly about Antek and Franzek, two originals from there), but I had heavy problems understanding the language. It is related to German, but I had heavy problems, even more than with Dutch. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

To those americans aparently it is.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Just shows you that there's a lot more to languages then what you think.
And you learn thousands times as much from ppl who speak the language than from what teachers tell you.

also Dutch and English are (don't know how to translated this) Germanian languages (they found their origin in north europe) While French is a Roman language.

Also Why do French people talk so fast I can't keep up

They really don't talk faster than we do. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
That's a typical thing ppl say about french, italians and spanish.
But it's all just in the prenounciation.
In The Netherlands some flemish dialects "sound" fast too. And the other way around.

How can you say the flemish people don't try to speak french?
Take our good Lynn fi, how she posted in the french forum. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Lynn talks a very good french but she does not have the time to post in all the sections of the forum.
Drealmer of course posts a lot of messages in the french section.
However i am wondering if he posts some messages in the dutch section of the forum. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

And you can't really expect the tourist office in Oudenaarde to reply in another language than dutch.
I think they ware more than surprised to get a call from a none flemish person.
LoL <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ROFL.gif" alt="" />

Oudenaarde is a very beautiful flemish town with a lot of ancient monuments.
This town desserves to be visited and that the people try to know some of its History.

I took a taxi to go to the Larian office and the young female driver was very surprised when i told her that a game developper, well known in the world, has its office in Oudenaarde. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Apart from the known big cities and some other places tourism isn't important in Belgium. Don't compare it with France where tourism is one of the biggest sources of income for a lot of people.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Tourism could be more important in Belgium.

Belgium is full of acient buildings.
But it's also a very small country. -Most americans think it's part of France or Germany. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
And very divided.
Tourism will never be "big" in Belgium.

Is it so important that americans think Belgium is a part of France or Germany.
Everybody can not have a big knowledge in geography.
Recently i discovered that the Borneo island was divided in two parts, just because janggut talked about his country.
Without janggut i would have stayed ignorant about the malaysian part of Borneo. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shhh.gif" alt="" />

It's also not important that tourism in Belgium is big or small.
But if i want to visit a place like Oudenaarde i would like to get the informations at least in english and if it is possible, in french.

And the Malaysian part of Borneo is very important.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Barta,
Unknown is unloved.
If places don't get (m)any visitors they won't invest in tourism and touristical services.
I'm pretty sure they never even thought of providing that service in another language. And they probably don't have the funds for it.

There are enough hotels and restaurants in Oudenaarde.
I don't think that it could be a big investissement to provide lessons in english or french to the tourism office employees.

@ Seth

Go to Oudenaarde and tell to everybody that the President of the PIF is planning to organise a huge meeting of all the insane fans of the Larian games.
And that the tourism office employees have to learn at least the english language before all these people come from all the parts of the world.

@ Morbo

You are joking but it's interesting or it is exactely the things in which i am interested.

In France it's the same.
We were overrun by the romans, the arabs, the vikings and the germans.
