I think though that Divnity doesnt play by all those rules.

Instead of humble/unknown beginings how about you have a couple of choices which are different from which class you have.

This doesnt effect what skills you take or anything like that.

Citizen's son: Your parents live in Rivellon and you start off there.
You start with basic gear but must come home every month or so..or your mum will worry. You get to do some chores around the house.

Wanderer: Typical newcomer with some gear and money, parents/relatives might meet you 5 times during the game maybe giving you a quest or so.

Orphan: Parents unknown but a homeless charity( Blakes house, situated next to his shop) took you in, so you must donate some of your money to the guild every month.
If you fail your rep goes down to -25..(or the level just under when the npc's will attack you)

Nobleman: Parents wealthy(live in Rivellon) and you get alot of money to start off..people offer you better prices.
But you must attend social occasions every week or so...if you fail..dad will kick you out of his house..like Sir Dante's son.

What bothers me is that if you keep stuff lying on the ground..people wont steal it..i mean come on!!

If you have the only key to your house/room/chest..fine but if you leave stuff lying around..be warned..the thieves guild arent called so for nothing.
