Hello Raze and Barta,

your analysis of my problem was absolutely right, I could solve it. And as I now understand the mechnism I can explain what went wrong.

Some time after entering the mushroom forest I encountered the mutant which found the key. Thus the key-quest was opened. Later I tried to enter the lich cave, but as I stated in a different post I entered a cave without walls and items.
With that previous problem Raze gave me the correct advise, to copy a world.x0 file from an earlier saving into my present savegame. I took one from a time before I entered the mushroom forest. And what a joy, the cave now had walls and bookshelves and other items. When I encountered the lich, he asked me to take the key, but there was no key, because in the now valid world.x0 I had not yet encountered the mutant finding the key (Barta was right!!!).
Raze, I tried your world.x0 file, following your procedure, and there was a key on the ground. But as you were playing the English version of BD and I am playing the German version, the key (which looked like a key) was labelled “small statuette” and I still could not take it.
Therefore I copied my own world.x0 file (the one without walls but with the key quest) into my present savegame. Now I was in an empty cave without walls, bookshelves etc., but the lich and the key were visible. After taking the key the lich attacked me, I killed him and quickly copied the world.x0 (with walls etc., but without key quest) into my savegame. Having the key in my inventory I could approach the imp who was missing the key and got my reward.

What did I learn from it? As stated correctly in his procedure, if someone is missing an item and changes the world.x0 file to get it, he must immediately change back to the original world.x0 file or several other quests etc. may be corrupted.

Once again, Raze and Barta, thanks for your great advice.
