Hi! I'm new to playing the game, Got it when I bought Beyond Divinity, because I don't play a sequel without the first, and I have a few questions I can't find answers to by searching thusfar, and really don't want walk throughs or spoilers to ruin the fun yet.

1. If I have items I cannot use yet, but don't want to lose them or sell them, is there a place to store them? Is it safe to leave them laying in the abandoned house I found a key for? (In Aleroth I think it is called.) I have seen it said to get a chest to keep them in, where do I get one? The chest/barrel idea implies I won't lose the items, but I would like confirmation before I do it and lose them.

2. This is by far the most important question. I am having serious problems being able to see anything in the game, due to light/contrast vision problems I have. I raised the gamma to max in the game and on my monitor, that has helped a little. But, I cannot turn the view, nor see very well, and that is driving me bonkers. Are there tips to seeing things other than the alt key? The alt key does not highlight levers unfortunately, and I can't see them very well in the catacombs either.

3. Last question. People say they marked the location of the barracks on my map. However, when I open the map, and even zoom out all the way, I don't see anything marked. It didn't come with any maps or even a printed manual, since it was a free inclusion with Beyond Divinity, but even the pdf manual didn't really address this. Thanks in advance for any insights you can give.

Hi Bugsy and welcome to the forum.

I can answer question #1 for you.
If you open your inventory you can drag and drop whole chests into your inventory.
Then you can drag and drop the chest anywhere you want it.
There's one just up the ladder from your room in Aleroth.

Good Luck

I had exactely the same problem the first time i played the game.
It's because the main map is very huge and you have to use the arrow keys in the corners of the screen to see the different parts of the map.
You never can see the complete map on your screen.

You can also add yourself some little blue flags on the map for keeping in mind the localisation of some important things.

welcome!

No one will steal anything, except me lucky charms!

Weird gamma issues, sorry to hear.

They should be little red flags on the map.

You can place items in chests, cupboards, sacks of grain or other containers, or spread them around on the ground wherever you wish, and they will remain there. I avoided using barrels, since they are easy to smash if you are still in combat mode when you try to open them. Several of the houses in Aleroth have chests you can 'borrow'.

Early Starter Tips (NON-Spoiler Version)

You can move/wave your mouse around systematically to look for levers, doors and other objects (a description will flash on screen when the mouse cursor is over something).

In the Display Properties advanced settings (right click on an open area of your desktop and select Properties, then switch to the Settings tab and click the Advanced button), are there any options to change the gamma / brightness / contrast? If not, check for updated video drivers, to see if that has been added.
There may also be a utility for your monitor to create custom colour profiles, for use in the Color Management tab of the advanced Display Properties (check the driver CD that came with the monitor, or the manufacturer's web site).

In addition to using the arrow keys to move the map around, you can also click the left mouse button and drag the map.

Wonderful!! Thank you all so very much for your kind help! I knew the color profile thing existed, just wasn't sure what to use it for, so never had. That really lightened it up even more, now I can actually see more!! Still would be easier if we could turn the screen, but this has really helped.

Thank you to for the info on the items. I'm used to items disappearing after a time in most games I've played, so was wary of dropping anything. I have a long journey ahead, and am so pleased the forums are still so active!! I've been gaming for years, but only recently began frequenting forums. Now I'm off to play, but I'll be back to post more I'm sure.

Thanks Again!!

Had to comment on the name. LOL My favorite books, and a decent game, though the game could have followed the books to be even better. Thank you for your reply as well!

The characters and background in Divine Divinity are in 2D, so there is no way to rotate the view. Lowering the resolution will make things bigger, and maybe easier to see, but will also cut down on your field of view.

With Beyond Divinity the background is also 2D, but the characters are in 3D (the next game, in development, will be full 3D). In BD you can use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in and out.

When I made the color profile yesterday, I actually just did a whole "desktop" profile, where it lowers the resolution to 640x480, and brightens it for gaming. I was using a very high resolution (1024x768), for the other game I had been playing required the bigger the better to see. (Children of the Nile.) That made a world of difference, and thanks to your suggestions, I don't have to spend twenty minutes each time rearranging it. I was even able to set the monitor back where it should be, and just let the color profiles change it. Wanted to post back on my findings again, so if someone else has this problem, they know this does immensely help. I was able to finally complete the catacombs last night cause I could SEE! lol! And thank you all again.

for the 2 question:
you need to go to the mai menu
then options-video-visual-
then put the gamma on 1.60
after this you will see everithing mor bright.
