I'm with Shyone. I use Thunderbird and I love it because of the extensions.
@ Mea -> Way to go. Welcome aboard.
Now switch to Thunderbird and you will rock.
Shan Hmm just to show that I ain't that slow, I have had T-Bird since erm well before it was T-Bird But only started to use FF about 6 months ago or so *Basicly cause in the ol' Netscape days, when it went to version 6 IIRC and it was basicly A whole new VERY bloated Browser then tried Mozilla and Opera, but it was just too much hassle so I ended up for at least a year or so with IE and a front end called Crazy Browser and lotsa lotsa security and protection programs Then when Morbo pointed out how cool FF was I read up on it in some Mags and concurred with his analysis and thus have been running FF since V.08

I just got an email from a friend who sent me the following URL. Google Watch I am posting it in this thread since Gmail is mentioned in both. Have any of you read this? If you have what do you think? I am curious as to your thoughts. Shan

Could you give me the special links of what it is important to read or could you just explain me why you posted this link. BTW i use Google a lot, it's my favourite search engine. Barta

Although I know those -Watch sites have some truth, I believe that their admins have too much time on their hands. If you look closely, there is a hate website for every major company. Nevertheless, many of those who boast about how much they hate company X use the same company's products. Most of the Microsoft-haters, for example, still use Windows XP.

I need more information too. I am hoping some of the people on the forum can be of help to both of us.
My main concern is the security risk involved. I am concerned about the the information that they can collect from us not only by way of the Gmail accounts, but even through Google as your search engine and they fact they hold on to it for an indefinite period of time.
Wish I could tell you more, but I don't have enough information to tell you any more at this time.
Hopefully someone will give us both more information.

Oh my god! Google will learn that I like Creedence Clearwater Revival! I should not by any means let them know that!
Seriously, it's not like anyone here has a criminal past to hide. What can be collected on you through email/search engine? Or do you think they will black-mail you?

I think she ment that she doesn't want the "Big Brother" kinda things. I like my privacy too, and I don't want anyone to get in to my computer by any means. Not everyone uses his computer for gaming only, some of us may use it for more serious matters. You can't trust everything you get in your mailbox, even if it's from a friend.

Hey guys, I didn't post this to cause any trouble. I had a friend to email it to me and I was just trying to find out if anyone on the forum could give me any information about it.
I know there are alot of smart people around here, ones that know alot more about computers than I do and I thought it might be a good place to get some more detailed information about the stuff on the site.
I didn't post this to try to tell anyone that Gmail and Google are bad. I have no idea if it is a security risk or not. I am just curious and I just want information from all the people I can get.
So if you have any information, please share it with me.

@Seth - about copy the stuff to cd, they took away the writer(CD-rw) here. Sorry bro. Our latest computers at work don't even have a disc- or a cd drive anymore too. Guess they're scared we bring to much not work related stuff. Or probably they ware just stupid in ordering those puters. Couse we need disks and CD's regularly. Infact, we even have to store certain things on disks for a couple of months often. How about mailing some (smaller) stuff to a freind who has internet con and then copy it there? I'm always trying to work around things.

Why not simply take a portable external drive with you to work? Simply plug in the USB cable into your computer and save it to the drive you brought with you. If they are using WinXP it will auto recognize most portable external drives. And those portable drives can hold a few gigs now.

Yes,I like it. It seems to be a very good web mail and has good speed to it.
I like it alot better than Yahoo especially the ad stuff. I don't use web mail that often but when I do I will use Gmail.

People, i have a question after you have used the gmail web mail - did you liked of it, is good enough? Hmm yup it suits my purpose just fine, thank you .... that being of an email address that is acceptable to most forums and other associated "fill in" forms etc., I do have a private email address that I use for correspondence to people in my Address book, so to be truthful, I use it mainly for sites where I can expect to get spam from and thus I don't get this Spam on my private email The reasons why I like it: A) It has POP, this means I can get all my emails from the various providers collected by T-Bird B) It has a whole lot more space C) It lets you import your address books(Heh of course only the ones that you want to import) D) It is easy to use. E) I got it from Shyon
