My home work is done so I mail to my gmail account so i can retrieve it at school. I rar it (500Kb) and send it to my gmail account.

At school I check my gmail account.

Seems gmail has enforced a policy that doesn't allow exe (I can understand why) zip with EXe file in them (questionable) and NO RARFILES AT ALL.

Morbo, I'm not sure I understood everything clearly.

Did you say that gmail will not allow rar files or .exe files inside of a rar
file? This is where I am confused.

WinACE, a compression software/method, much like RAR & ZIP but for me it's better. not free though.

What I found on the Gmail forum.

Gmail blocks the following:

First it's EXEs blocked

Then it's ZIP files containing EXEs blocked.

Then it's RAR files containing EXEs blocked.

Now it's ALL RAR files are blocked?!

What if you remove the extension from the file name...does that work?

If you rename the EXE to EX_ and then ZIP it up.
The recipient can then rename the EX_ back to an EXE
I believe that should work for you.

It will complain about you renaming it, but it has worked for me.
I have not tested it in the gmail, but it does work in other places.

The thing is if gmail will not allow ,rar files at all then just changing the
extension of a .exe file is not going to work. Morbo have you tried sending a
.rar file without the extension like Plowking asked?

Morbo do you know why Gmail is not allowing any .rar files? I guess I don't see

compressed if it was very big than just sending as a plain attachment.

so changing the EXE and then ZIPPING it would work.

In a lot of cases I've found you can rename your RAR or ZIP
to RA_ or ZI_ and then have the receiver name them back
to the proper file format name.

change the extension should work. Those rules are in place to prevent the stupid user from accedentely opening viruses. Know I don't know but if you have to extract it and then execute it and it's from a person you most likely never heard from and it's a virus you are just a plain old idiot.
