Well, I'm on an RPG replaying spree and Divine Divinity is next on my list. Since I'm planning on making a spear-using character, let me ask some questions.

-Is pumping spear mastery up worth it? It seems the damage increase doesn't warrant the mana increase for throwing it.

-If I poisoned the spear, will the thrown spears still poison?

-It's not related to spears but...how does embrace shadows differ from the survivor special move?

-Yet another non-spear related question...is there a finite number of herbs in the wilderness?

1. Yes. lvl 5 of any expertise is very good. However it works best with the sword.

Never experimented with that. But I guess it should.

3. Special moves cost stamina while magic costs mana.

4. Technically - 'yes'. But for all practical purposes there are a lot of them around. Spoiler : If you make restoration potions, you won't need that many herbs. You can combine health and mana potions to make restoration potions. (Highlight to read)

Addition:

Poisoned weapon is a very helpful skill and does also work with ranged weapons, so it should be no problem for a thrown spear.

I just tested poison weapon and throw spear, the thrown spear doesn't seem to have the poison effect.

GlanceALot is right. Poison works with bows and crossbows. I am not sure about thrown weapons though.

Don't forget that you need to have poison in your inventory, for it to be effective!

...yes it was poisoned: said 10 poison charges on the weapon. Maybe I missed or something? I have to test that again.

And is it normal to get killed in 1 hit by that big red skeleton archer in the catacombs after I return to it at level 9?

EDIT: just tested it, I threw my spear at an Orc and the charges didn't go down from the weapon. When I whacked him up close, he turned green and I lost 1 charge.

No. Its not normal. It usually takes 3 arrows. At about lvl 12 you should be able to kill him relatively easily.

It all depends on what difficulty level you're playing the game on.
On the hardest mode he is actually one of the hardest things to kill down there.
And he can toast you nice and crispy like in no time flat.

Get a bow, and then chick. Run around and avoud getting hit, while you try to hit him. It's slow as hell, but you'll kill anything you whant (a tips is to do a real save before, and then autosave in the middle of the fight (and who said anything about cheating )). If you whant to use spear, you could probablly do so, but it'll drain mana (and I recon you don't have plenty of that this early in the game).

Other than that, thank you for testing out the thrown weapon with poison.

We'll have to make a mental note that the poison weapon skill is limited to melée weapons and ranged weapons, but does not work for thrown weapons.

Every now and then somebody still finds a new information - fascinating!
