Drop that t-shirt,Shan! Look what I got for you! Specially made for you. [Linked Image] And btw I checked for Stonehenge, aliens are allowed but you cannot bring your space-shuttle. I guess that wont be a big issue?
If you like to sse some more of England, don't worry we get there.
Let's go to Canterbury,Kent. As we are in front of the cathedral [Linked Image] We have to eat our picnick first. After a light lunch we can enter. In this cathedral, in the cellar, is a tomb of Prince Edward. Better known as The Black Prince .
No, you can't take pictures here, Übi!
there is also a frame with some of Edwards belongings. Most remarkable is the horsehair shirt that the Black Prince wore every day. It was his way to pay for his dues. It was very itchy to wear.
The dark entry Keep out on Fridaynights!
I tell you guys more if you like, right now I have to pray for the next hour...

Ring ring... ring ring...Gal pics up her cell. "Hallo, this is Gal speaking."
"Hello Gal," a familiar Irish voice " this is the receptionist from Hotel Greenyard. Apperently you bought a ticket from our lottery for the good cause?"
"Yes, I vaguely remember that I did that" and I look over to Jurak with a wink. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
"Well, miss, you won the 3th price! Congratulations, you can invite some friends and stay in our hotel for a week, all in!! You only have to come back right away, so we can check you in. We have 5 suites available for you, just invite everyone you like!"
"Woohoo" [Linked Image]"Who wants to go back with me to Ireland for the week?" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" />
If you want to go with me, just let me know, we have free suits remember that, and there is still so much we have to see in Ireland, let's go guys!!" [Linked Image]

Gal, are you serious? That lottery ticket you bought actually won? I can't
believe our luck. Ireland here we come. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh Gal, we have just got to go to the Mitchelstown Caves. There we can see
examples of 350 million year old fossils and some cave fauna. I love places like
this. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
[Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

And what about to the Alliwee Caves. It is one of the most ancient caves in the
Burren and perhaps in Ireland. This stunning creation of nature was formed by the
melt waters of a prehistoric ice age. The cave, carved out of limestone, cuts into
the heart of the mountain.

But I didn't get to see any football <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />.

Oh well, I've never been to Ireland (my parents were there a couple of years ago (to celebrate my mother's 50:th birthday), but they left me at home [Linked Image]). And someone has to keep everyone away from spoiling the whole trip with loads and loads of booze...

With St. Patrick's Day not far away, here is a link to a little quiz to find out

Don't worry, Ubereil. You'll still get to see your football game if you want to.
We just had to fly back to Ireland to collect on the lottery Gal won.

The place is letting us stay there a whole week free and they are even providing
breakfast. It was just to good to turn down. Plus the air fare is on Gal. With all
of her winnings, she can afford it. Hey, Gal where is my share? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

So pack your bag, catch the plane and off to Ireland we go. When the week is up
we will be headed back to England and you can catch your football game then. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Plus while we are there I will let you go caving with me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Ok, let's do some facts about Ireland. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Ireland's largest church is St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin.

The Popularity of Patrick as a Christian name in Ireland is due to the great 17th century general, Patrick Sarsfield, not our patron saint.

Guinness's fermenting vessel ferments 2,304,000 pints at one brewing.

Swallowing a live frog was an old Irish cure for a stomach ache?

St Patrick's Church of Ireland Cathedral in Armagh stands on a bit of land called
the ridge of the willow tree? According to legend, this land was given to St.
Patrick by Irish chief Daire, after St Patrick brought him and his horse back to
life.

[Linked Image]

When St. Patrick died, his followers argued about where to bury him? To settle the
dispute, they harnessed two untamed oxen to a cart carrying St Patrick's earthly
remains. Wherever the oxen stopped was where the saint would be buried. According
to the legend, the oxen stopped when they reached Dun-lethglaisse, the site of the
present Church of Ireland Cathedral, Downpatrick

I think this last one might be of interest to visit. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well, Shan, you got me there!! That first quiz was really a big flop.
I got 17 questions right, I got the name Plastic Paddy--> The roots are there but the green card is in danger of not being renewed! Help, I NEED to stay in Ireland for at least one more week. The next test was even worse.
Well, I think that the Church of Ireland Cathedral in Armagh is a very interesting site to see. I love the story about the oxen.
Übi, I have a great idea. What if you go to one of the local pubs and watch that footballgame, in the meantime Shan and Jurak and I will go to that church. When we come back, we will be thirsty and hungry. I hope they serve some local food.
First I'm gonna check in in the hotel, because I'm very tired. I wen out so much in London, that I need some rest now <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sleepey.gif" alt="" /> . You guys can go if you like, I'll meet you on one of the Aran Islands in a few hours.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the Aran Islands were immortalized by Irish playwright John Millington Synge in his The Aran Islands and, later, in his one-act play entitled Riders to the Sea. Today, thanks in part to press about Synge's work, tourism has nearly replaced fishing as the main industry of the islands. Tourists come to see the islands' picturesque whitewashed turf (or peat) cottages and admire the view of the Atlantic from the 300-foot cliffs that make the islands inaccessible from the west. However, the most popular tourist destination within the islands is Dun Aengus, a prehistoric structure found on Inishmore. Dun Aengus is comprised of three semicircular terraced stone walls that extend to the edge of the 270-foot cliff that forms the island's western border. Like most prehistoric monuments, the function of the structure is unknown, though many guess it was built as a temple to the ancient gods.
I would like to visit the limestone cottages. [Linked Image]

I could do that back home! (Well ok ,I had to be 18 to get in, but still!) The point of watching a footballgame in Englan is to do it live! Catch the athmospere (listening to that song now btw...) and so on! THAT'S why I wanted to see a game in England. Nothing else. I'll rather hang with you. I like seeing nice architecture.

No, no, no, Gal. Ubereil and I want to go to a football game in England when
we go back through there. Watching one on TV is not near as good. I just hope
our team wins. Who are we rooting for again, Ube?

You can take a nap while we're gone. I've got some big plans for us when we get
back.

Email to Happy -> Hap, I hope you are enjoying your visit with your anut. Hope to
catch back up with you when we pass back through. Later. Shan <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Gal, Ube, how about this limestone house. Jurak would you like to come along?

The Belvedere House - Home of Robert Rochfort, Earl of Belvedere

[Linked Image]

Although its rooms are now empty, this 18th century house remains much as it
was in the Earl's time. A solid grey limestone house of two stories over a
basement with a long front and curved end bows.

Visitors are told the tale of Rochfort's cruel 31 years imprisonment of his
second wife, Mary Molesworth; Sir John Pier's seduction of Lady Cloncurry at a
picnic(immortalised in verse by Sir John Betjemen) and the creation of Irelands
largest man-made folly - The Jealous Wall

[Linked Image]

The first Earl of Belvedere, Robert Rochfort, married the young and beautiful
Mary Molesworth. After she bore several children he locked her up at aged 20
in his old family home at Gaulstown, for suspected adultery.

She remained a prisoner for the better part of her life, and was only released
on the death of her tyrannical husband. It is said that he erected the Jealous
Wall to block out the view of his brother's nearby mansion, Tudenham, because
he suspected him of fancying his wife too.

Just a few more fun facts about Ireland.

According to old custom, a piece of candle, a coin and a small quantity of wine or
spirits should be placed next to someone who has died? The candle was to give the
deceased light, the coin was to pay the fare over the river of death, and the
liquor was to sustain him or her on their journey.

St. James's Gate Brewery is built on the site where, since medieval times,
Dubliners held an annual drinking festival every 25th July to celebrate the
feastday of St. James.

Emmett Square in Birr, Co. Offaly, marks the centre of Ireland.

Mulgrave Street in Limerick, which contains two hospitals, a prison and a lunatic
asylum, is known as 'Calamity Avenue' by the locals.
