Hooray, hooray for me. I found a place Seth likes.
*ring, ring, ring* Shan calling Gal on her cell phone. *ring, ring, ring* Hey, Gal, are you up? What did you think of my idea? Want to go to the Isle of Wight tomorrow? There is so much to see there that I really don't want to miss it since I am this close. Gal, come on. Don't go back to sleep on me. Wake up or I just might take off on my own again tomorrow.
We can finish seeing the sights you want to see in Southampton today and head for the Isle of Wight tomorrow. I'll even pass up the memorials and the docks, if you'll go with me.
See you at breakfast.
*hangs up*
Hope she was listening and didn't fall asleep on me. It sure got quite there at the end.
Shan
Edit: Gal, I think we just posted at the same time.

Now, about the Isle of Wight tomorrow, I agree with you and join you and the rest of our gang. Should we bring something special? Like bathing suits or rubber boots? Oh, I know!! It's the Isle of Wight Festival 2005! This is a list of the gasts that are performing: R.E.M, Snow Patrol, The Magic Numbers, The Subways, Caravan and Embrace have all been confirmed as the headline acts for Sunday 12th June. Razorlight and Faithless have been confirmed for Friday night at the Festival. I'm sure gonna stick around for R.E.M. and Faithless!

Hey, who is this Benny Hill guy anyway? I've never heard of him. Comedian, nah, still haven't ever heard of him. Famous, couldn't be. I have no idea who this guy is. Why Gal would want to visit some unknown's birthplace I have no idea. Well Shan, you never heard of the Benny Hill show? Or Benny Hill's comedy? Never saw "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"? Maybe he wasn't popular in America, my mother used to call this kind of humour "pis en kak humor" (something like pee and poop humour) it was funny but not for everyone, it's English humour. I hope you know more about him now.

I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bany. It was really a cute movie with Dick Van Dyke. In fact I think we have it around some where. Was this Benny Hill character in it? Which one was he if he was? He could have been popular here for all I know. I follow comedians that much to know one from the other hardly. Anyway I hope we had a great time visiting his birthplace today.
Great Gal, I am glad you are coming along. We are going to have loads of fun on Wight Isle. Here is a map of the island. And the good thing is that we can take the Red Funnel Ferry from right here in Southampton to Cowes which is a good starting spot for our visit to the Isle of Wight.
Let's spend our first day on the Isle of Wight in Cowes. There are lots of things to see close by like the old Cowes Station and Obsorne House (Queen Victoria's home away from court life) which is only a short distance from Cowes.
How does this sound to everybody?

Cowes derived its name from two forts built by Henry VIII in 1539 to dispel the threat of a Spanish invasion. West Cowes Castle later became a State Prison and then in 1856, the headquarters of Britain's premier yacht club, the Royal Yacht Squadron.
Cowes, as it is now known, is renowned as the yachting centre of the world.
The town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight is host to what is claimed to be the longest-running, regular regatta in the world, having been held in early August every year (except during the two World Wars) since the first race started in 1826.
Racing is centred on the Solent, the area of water that lies between mainland Britain and the Isle of Wight about 25 miles long and five miles wide. It is, in effect, a double-ended river, open to the sea at both ends of the island with peculiar tidal patterns to match, keeping tacticians particularly busy.

Hey guys, did you know that Queen Victoria had a bathing machine that can be seen when visiting Osborne House.
Osborne House
The Bathing Machine
The Queen, as well as all proper ladies of the time, went swimming -- or "bathing" -- with the aid of a bathing machine, which looked rather like a gypsy cart. Within, the lady would change into her bathing costume and then the machine would be rolled down a track into the sea, where the lady would emerge directly into the water and begin swimming.

Swiss Cottage at Osborne House.
The swiss cottage built in the grounds of Osborne house for Victoria's children. Inside is a kitchen used to allow the young Royal to learn practical housekeeping skills. Part of the cottage was used as a museum, the exhibits collected and arranged by the children. Even the garden, seen in the foreground had an educational purpose. Prince Albert made his children grow produce to sell to the House kitchens, an exercise in economics.
Victoria Fort and Arthur Barracks
Built in 1856 in the grounds of Osborne house. It was constructed as a play thing for Queen Victoria's children and the barracks added in 1860. Miniature bricks were specially made on the Estate for the barracks. The fort also has a drawbridge, earthworks, flagpole and cannon.

*ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring* "Gal, wake up and answer your phone," thinks Shan. "I've done all of this research on Cowes and now it is time to go see it." *ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring."
"Oh well, I guess I will just have to go wake her up myself," thinks Shan. Entering Gal's room, Shan walks over to the bed and shakes Gal. "Wake up, sleephead. It is time to get up and get going. Cowes on the Isle of Wight is waiting to be expored." Shanking her again, Shan says "Come on, Gal. Get up."

Want to do a ghost watch? This one sounds kinda interesting.
Isle of Wight - East Cowes
A paratrooper from WWII has been seen by a dozen bystanders at different times - parachuting from the sky and without a head. He disappears just after his parachute pops open, before he touches the ground. *Ooooooooooooo*

He is featured on the video "Anything She Does" by Genesis, very funny indeed. By the way, if you want to go to Ventnor, I'm with you ! VEntnor, Bonchurch is the only place on the Isle of Wight I know personally. More, I fell in Love with the House East Dene ! This house pictured there is East Dene. Site about Bonchurch : http://www.bonchurch.infoSite about the Isle of Wight in general : http://www.islandbreaks.co.ukPictures of Bonchurch, seems to want Java, hav't tested it yet. Shanklin is also interesting, because they have a Dinosaur Museum there. My dream is to once walk around the whole Isle of Wight in one vacation.

Ok, Alrik, you got yourself a little mansion here on Isle of Wight, but did you think about a maid to clean the place?? No? You didn't?? Haha, I bought myself the cutest little cottage, looks a bit like a Hobbit house to me. Are you jealous yet??
Pheeeewwww, next time I put on my Nikes instead of my rubber boots, these feet are killing me. No wonder, we've been on the road for more than 14 hours yet! Anyone hungry, I am and thirsty too!! With this view on Loughrigg
I'm in the mood for some potatoes, smash them, boil them stick 'm in a stuw...anything you like with a fresh pint a long side, hmmmm...
*That same night in my new place (you guys were all invited for the night) I ask Jurak for a little help. We both agreed that the group needs some sleep so we tryed to make Shan a little drunk and tied her up on her bed. We also take away her cellphone. This way we all get to sleep out and wont be woken up at the unholy hours in the morning!! I tell the others we finally gonna get some rest here!! Woehahaha...
Look at her, isn't she sweet?... When she is sleeping!!

*bang, bang, bang* Shan bangs on Gal's door bright and early the next morning. (hmmmmmm, it's around 6:00 I think). "Gal, wake up," she calls. She then goes around banging on everybody elses doors too. "Ube, get up and let's get going. Jurak, it's time to get up. We've got lots to see. No time for sleep now. Everybody can sleep once we get home," she calls as she runs from door to door banging on each one. "Gal, get out of bed or I'm going to come pull you out. We might meet up with Seth or Alrik or who knows who today. Come on. It's time to get up everybody."
"Uh, hmmmmm, uh. Oh no, not you again," groans Gal covering her head with her pillow. "What, how did.... Ahhhhhhhh...." screams Gal.
email to Alrik -> We would love to visit Ventnor. I hope you don't mind if we make a few stops on our way since Ventor is on the opposite side of the island. You are welcome to meet up with us and tour the other areas of the island or wait for us in Ventnor. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

After finally getting everybody up and going, we all head off to Osborne house to spend the day.
Like those who visited the Queen at Osborne, todays guests can arrive in style by horse drawn carriage, an evocative way to become immersed in the special atmosphere of this Royal retreat.
The opulent furnishings of this drawing room will transport you guests back in time to an age when this was a royal retreat.
Dining Room
Responsible for setting the dining tables for lunch and dinner were the table deckers, staff employed to arrange displays using flowers from the kitchen garden, and to make the final preparations to the food. One of the dining tables is displayed to show the laying for dinner in progress, with the set square and ruler used by the table decker to ensure each setting was arranged perfectly. Much of the table deckers rooms have survived, including the blue painted walls to the glazed cupboards (blue was considered to discourage flies).
The restored Anglo-Indian interior of the Durbar Room is the setting for an array of royal treasures from the Indian sub-continent presented to Queen Victoria on the occasion of her Golden and Diamond Jubilees. The gifts she received were the finest examples of miniature painting, ivory and marble inlay, silver engraving, embroidery, and sandalwood and soapstone carving. Displayed alongside are contemporary works of art of equally high quality being made in India today.
Finally, for one year only, the Queens bedroom has been recreated as it was after her death on 22 January 1901, including palms and lilies to decorate her bed.
Garden
Wow! what a day. We had a great time even though Gal complained alot about all the walking. I still think she had fun though.

Hm, the tower of the Osborne House reminds me strongly of the two towers of the "Orangerie" in Potsdam, Germany ...
Today I make a walk on the hill over Ventnor : A great look down on Ventnor !
This hill is quite high and steep. But with a lot of grass around - would be slippery if it was wet there.
The walk down on the other side is a bit complicated, though, because its still steep there ...

Heeeey! I wasn't complaining!! Today I had my Nikies on so I could walked alot more! Don't forget your drinks tomorrow, or you will be thirsty like today. I'm not sharing my drinks with you again, remember that.
You know what Alrik? Since it started raining this morning, I have a great idea. You said the hills are slippery when wet, what do you think if we took a piece of cardboard and we slide down the hills? Must be fun!! All the way down, Jihaaa!
Jurak, next time we tie up Shan, we need stronger stuff than that beer we gave her, she didn't pass out long enough

Alrik, are there any place around Ventnor to go rock climbing? Wonder if Gal can keep up with that?
The hill you are talking about reminds me of a place where we like to go hiking. There are alot of rocks to climb up and sometimes the path is really worn, but the view from the top is worth every effort to get there. I don't know about you but alot of times I have found going down is alot harder than going up.
Alrik do you want to meet us in Shanklin and then we can head down to Ventnor with you and maybe then to Godshill?
So if everybody is ready to move on we can head for Shanklin in the morning that is if I can get Gal and the others out of bed. Man, she sleep more than any person I know.
Oh, Gal, if you don't stop trying to slip stuff into my water, I'm going to see that you and Jurak are banned from every pub wherever we go. It'lll be no more drinks for either of you ever again.
