Of course you can get a snack! You can probally buy loads of stuff there (at outrageous prices, I'm shure ).

I think it's probablly more secure if we preorder. I don't know if it will be full, I rarelly go to Brugges games (of obvious reasons), but I'm pretty certain it will be quite an atmosphere there. After all, they ARE the the second greatest club in Belgium (Anderlecht is still ahead, I think). And we don't rout for anyone, we just enjoy the game . If you like, you could allways rout form Manchester United though .

Anyone who likes to join btw?

Well that is settled then? Shan and Üb are going to the football game. (did you know our Jan Breydelstadion was used for the big game Euro 2000?)
But football is not really my idea of having a good time.
You guys can go if you like, enjoy yourselves and don't get in to fights, the Bruges fans like to fight if they looses the game.

Hey Seth,
Did you honestly thought I was forgetting those things? I'm may be blond, but I'm not stupid
On the Big market in central Bruges you have the statue of Jan Breydel and Pieter De Coninck. Jan Breydel and Pieter De Coninck
These man are genuine hero's for us, Flemmish folks.
De Guldensporenslag If you would like some more info or translation I would suggest to ask some of the older members of the forum, maybe Seth will help out?
The text will explain why the "Brugse Metten" happened. That is the name of one of the most important battles we had to fight, and we won!! The Flemmisch people had to be freed from the French king, Philippe the 4th.
Jan Breydel and Pieter De Coninck took the leadership over the crowd to lead them into freedom.
The whole history is too complex for me to tell, but i hope others will be happy to help out if there are any questions or people would like to know more about that subject.

If you go a little further down the water, with the boat called "Lamme Goedzak" [Linked Image] you will get in Damme. Artists village Damme This small village has his fame for being a village of artists, like painters and bookwriters.

I will tell you guys more tomorrow about our nature preservation domain. If you like birds.

I hope I made it still interesting for everybody?

Hey, Ubereil, tomorrow is Sunday. You got the tickets? I am really looking to
the game since I've never had a chance to see any Belgium teams play. I hope it
will be a real good game.

What time are we leaving for the game? Are we going by car, bus, or what?
Also do I need to bring anything other than money for us some snacks during the
game?

What do you mean I can root for Manchester United. They aren't even playing.
What if I root for one of the Belgium teams while we are at the game and then I
will root for Manchester United again afterwards. Will that work? Maybe Club
Brugge, huh? Who do you think will win? I want to root for the winner.

Catch you later for the big game.

Hey, Ube, looks like it will just be you and me tomorrow. I just got a call from
Gal saying that she, LaFille, Lady Sarah, and Seth are going site seeing tomorrow.

Oh well, they don't know what they are missing. We are going to have a great time.
Ooooooo, I can hardly wait. Don't let me over sleep in the morning.

Oh and Gal, you guys will have to tell us about your day. I bet it won't be as
exciting as ours though.

Erm... Better rout for Bruges...

And even though I don't really know anything about Belgian football, I think Bruges will win. They and Anderlecht ARE the two biggest clubs in Belgium after all. I know this since I've played FIFA 2005 .

All who loves me, follow me!!
I'm going to show you guys the little corners of Bruges. For lunch I'll take you all to my favorite restaurant Pasta Presto. These folks are very friendly and their pizza's are to die for!! Guys, since Shan and Üb thinks they will have more fun then we, I'll buy you all lunch. (woohoo [Linked Image]) I recommand the pizza Parma with spicy salami and extra mozarella. For dessert home-made chocolate mousse, with wipped cream on top!! Yummie!!
I hope I made you very jalous, Shan, I promised I would take you to the restaurant but since you rather like football and hotdogs... too bad for you!!

Here [Linked Image] we will have a nice fresh beer from Bruges or an iced tea, anything you like.
Bruges is a perfect medieval fairy tale city, full of sights like this one. This is the lake of love, named Minnewater. [Linked Image]
If you press the "next" button you will have a nice walk through Bruges. I hope we will have fun!
In the Church of our Lady we can admire a piece of work from Michelangelo. He made a beautiful sculpture from the mother Mary with Child. You can sse the tombs of Mary of Burgundy and Duke Charles the Bold of Burgundy.
If anyone is interested in some genuine Bruges lace ?
Maybe for a child that soon is to be baptised, or for your grandmother, or some fine piece of lingery for the missies? You will find anything here. Some is still handmade. The Japanese tourists are happy to pay a fortune for a porcelaine doll just for the kids to play with.
I told you about the Hallen and Belfort ? Well, when you are in front of the Belfort, you see that it's not very straight. That is because the ground use to be like a swamp. Throught the years it started to go in a bit. Maybe one day we will have our tower of Pisa, but then in Bruges

So guys, I hope I made your day not too boring? When Shan and übereill returns from their football game, I suggest we go to the next city Gent. Tomorrow morning we take the train.
@ Seth, Bean, Dragh and all the Belgians here on the forum, draag uw steentje bij in de rondleiding? It would be nice to hear from my fellow countrymen!

Hey, Bruges is really an awsome city! I loved the sights, the architecture, the art and the food. And it was good to move a bit, to do some exercise...

Gal & Seth, you forgot to tell us that the historic center of Bruges was one of the sites of the UNESCO's world heritage list! Or was it humility?

But... I think we lost Lady Sarah somewhere. Maybe she had another problem finding some ladies room and got lost? Or she had troubles with the camper?

Shan & Ube, I hope you had fun and thought to buy some souvenirs of Belgian football for us! And that you got out of there without too much damage if Bruges lost...

So, the train to Gent tomorrow. Good. Everyone's ready?

Well, the game was kind of nice. It ended 1-1 after Liege took the lead in the 16:thg minute, through Conceicao (think he's portugese). A quite nice goal, acually. The Bruges goal, from Verheyen's foot in the 40:th minute, from rougly 20 meters wasn't bad either. The secongd half wes a bit slow though, Brugge tried to get the winning goal without sucksess (sp?).

Now, Genk was it?

Hey everybody, you guys sure did miss a great game. Ubereil got us great seats
where we could see everything without a problem. Wow, Verheyen is a pretty good
player. That goal of his wasn't half bad. It made the Brugge fans happy since
Liege had scored the first goal. Yeah, Ube, was right everybody was hoping for
another goal in the second half, but it didn't happen and the game ended in a
tie. Excitement down to the last second wondering if we were going
to win or lose. Yeah, yeah, I know, a tie, but hey, isn't a tie better than a lost.
Oh well, I had a great time anyway.

Ubereil, don't tell anybody that we snuck off after the game to that pizza place
Gal was talking about and had some of her yummy pizza ourselves. It'll be out
little secret.

So we are taking the train to Gent tomorrow. Sounds cool. How long will it take
us to get there? Can I get a snack on the train or should I get something to take
with me for the trip?

Hold it, hold it, hold it. I think you and Seth lost somebody in Brugge. Where is
Lady Sarah. You guys didn't run off and leave her hunting a ladies room did you?
Maybe somebody had better try to find her before we leave town tomorrow. She might
not like it if we run off and leave her. And Gal she might not let you stay in
her camper any more.

Got to run. Ube and I are off to catch one more site before you take us on that
train trip tomorrow. Catch you later, sleepy heads. Hey, Ube, let's go.

I know the Ardennes a bit ... have been there on an almost 2 weeks long excoursion. I just wonder whether I know this town as well ...

Did you know that the Ardennes contain Konglomerate Stones from a time long before the first Vertebrates ? We were there, and our leader of the excoursion wanted to spend a drink if we find corals ... we were lucky : someone evenfound two !

This was the time of the first hard-bodies corals evolving, mind you !

It was immensely impressive for me, standing on a *huge* layer of konglomerates that have been set there loooooooooooooooooooooong before humans, even looooooooooong before any vertebrates at all !

Alrik.

Alrik, you mean there are fossils in Belgium? Wow, that sounds like a gotta see.
Hey, Gal can we go see Alrik fossils before we leave here?

Alrik can you link us to any pictures so I can read up a little and see exactly
what we might find on our visit there? Can you tell any more about it and what
city it is near. I have got to talk Gal into going there.

Alrik, I've got an even better idea. Why don't you take the train or fly in and
meet us there and then you can be our guide.

Hey, Ubereil, are you up for seeing some fossils?

Wow, Lady Sarah, I thought Gal, LaFille, and Seth had lost you while Ube and I
were at the football game. It sure looks like you found some great sites. Did you
miss out on Gal's pizza? Ube and I snuck over there after the game and got our
share. She was right. It was great pizza.

Gal, now where did you sneak off to?

Well guys I see that Gent is not on the list for today. But I suppose it will be still there when we go to see it in another few days.

So, you would like to go to the Ardennes. Well, that is not a problem, it's a great way to mix up the city with nature.
La Roche
The La Roche Museum of the Battle of the Ardennes Here we see what the English, the Americans and many more soldiers did for our country.
Of course you can't be in Les Ardennes without tasting one of our Great Ardennes Ham
If there are any rock and stone lovers here, you should all go to see Rhenohercynian trilobites in Ardennes and Eifel.
If we continue riding in Lady Sarah's camper, we might as well go to see the most sightful places in the Ardennes. It's full of little villages, but here and there there are some interestings things to see. The Citadel of Dinant If you are not claustrofobic, you like lightshows and long dark walks, you should go inside the citadel. With her 408 steps you have a long way to go. There is also another site with lots of medieval castles, sights and cool sport events, but it's all in Dutch. There are castles from the 17th and 18th century, [Linked Image]The casle of Vêves, [Linked Image]The castle farm from Falaën [Linked Image]We also have a smaller version of the garden of Versailles, at the castle of Freyr.
Shan, Üb,Lady Sarah, Lafille, Seth, Alrik and everyone here, listen up! Because it's a hot day, I hope you are into something with water? We have a nice place to go. The Lesse with kayak. It's almost like a kano, but you don't have to sit on your knees. I do it every year, I take the long parcours de 21 kms Houyet - Anseremme. It takes me about 4 hours to get to the finish, if you look around you will see one of the ancient castles on the way [Linked Image] , I hope you are not afraid of having wet pants!! Let's go!!
No football today, but only mountainbiking, hiking and kayaking! For the guys that are afraid of the water, (it's no deeper then 30 cm to one meter at most places) you can always rent a mountainbike and descent from the citadel all the way down.
I hope everybody gets what he/she want today. There is a nice place to stay tonight, LA FERME DES BELLES GOURMANDES ** (Furfooz - Dinant)
[Linked Image]
Goodnight everybody!

I have never found complete Trilobytes. Only parts of them. The part I found in the Ardennes is the back part of a Trilobyte I couldn't find on that page.

If you want to learn more about Trilobytes, try this excellent page :

http://www.trilobites.info

Edit : I've been here (among other places); I recognite this place from my memory : Vireux.
http://members.lycos.nl/trilobite/vireux.html

This site was once a border between France & Belgium. I don't know what 's the word in English, but I call it a "checkpoint" now. As I was there, it was already prohibited to collect there. It's still very popular, apart from the fact that it isn't allowed to collect there anymore.

Anyway, nice place . And I'm not afraid of water, as long as I don't have to be in it...

Bernisart and iguanodon.

You'll find one of the examples of fossils in Belgium.
And get a history lesson.

@ Üb
First of all, Übereill, you should read before you answer. Since a few of us wanted to see the Ardennes first, I thought it would be better to go at some other time and switch the city for nature.
@ Alrik
So, after we saw the Ardennes, we will move on to Gent and Oudenaarde and Antwerp. That way we can continue towards Limburg, the last region of Belgium. And since we are then finished in Belgium, we can either go to France to see more of what we missed or we can go to Germany where Alrik and Stone can be our guides.
But first things first, now we are in the Ardennes.
@ Seth
You can take them along with you to the castle of Bouillon if you like, I'm not the only one that is playing guide here. Let them show that you are also proud of your motherland. [Linked Image]

Pfff, I'm very tired from that kayaking. Anyone in the mood for real Belgian fries with Carbonades à la flamande? [Linked Image]
Tomorrow it will be 175 years of the Belgian Dynasty . I think that calls for a celebration!! What about visiting our very own Champ de Bataille de Waterloo with a proud Lion. 226 steps untill you reach the proud statue. [Linked Image] [Linked Image]
On this page typically Belgian you can read more about the battle of 1815. I did my best to search for everything in English.
So have fun!!

I never been proud of the artificial nation Belgium. Belgium as a nation/state. It doesn't feel like a motherland, I don't feel connected at all.
Belgium only exists becouse a couple 1000 politicians don't wanna loose their jobs and therefore they use a royal family that give me the creeps. Belgium as a nation, as a political state is nothing to be proud of. The most politically and economicly corrupted country... with politicians that let it become one of the most poluted countries and that let the heritage go to waste. Unless they benefit from it personally.
More (bigger or minor) scandals every day then in any other western country.
The thing what makes it a great place are the people and that they keep going through all that and even succeed in making it a good place to live in. Although... on the other hand, I often think that they must be incredibly stupid to always get lied to and pushed around like that without reacting.
When I lived in Italy or when I was spending most of my time in other countries I didn't miss Belgium at all.
