I don't like our politics and I think our royal family are the puppets of our nation. But what I ment with being proud of your motherland is being proud of what we have. We have beautiful cities, old buildings and castles. We have a history that is one of the older in the world. We have a statue of Ambiorix, known for being the bravest of Gaules (I hope that's correct?). We are known for our fries and our beer. For our kind of humour...these are the things you must be proud of. These things are not artificial, but real and very attractive. Try to see it from this point of view, Seth? Please??

I'll take you all to to the castle of Godfried Of Bouillon. (Godefroy IV of Bouillon) Godefroy IV of Bouillon was duke of Lower-Lorraine from 1089 until 1096. In 1096, he joined the first cruisade to the Holy Land, and when Jerusalem was conquered in 1099, he was elected king of Jerusalem. He died in 1100.

I'm soo happy that we have found our last member of the fellowship back that I'm planning a big welcome back party at the castle of Sorbiers.

I have rented the whole place just for us, let's get the party started!!!
We'll go to Gent the first thing the next day, but I just want everybody to get dressed up in medieval style and danse! Remember, this will be the last time that you are in a real medieval castle in Belgium!

Look guys, what did you think about my costume? I was dressed as Anne Boleyn and that handsome looking man besides me is Jurak. He will not admit but it's him, you can see it by the way he rolls his eyes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Allthough Seth warned him not to bring any beer, he did!! But we hide it and made him drink our own. We have the best beer in the world!!

I want also to show you the Castle of the Counts. It's a fortress build in 1180.
If Count Dracula can have a castle, then why can't the Counts of Belgium? This castle was erected for Philip of Alsace, who was the count of Flanders from 1157 to 1191. The castle is designed more to impress the senses than as protection during battle. It replaced three other houses, the first of which was built at this location in 867 by Baldwin Iron Arm, known for flexing his political muscle by marrying one of Charles the Bolds French daughters, whether he or she wanted it or not. The castle was incrementally expanded as Philip needed to continue to impress the people around him. This sort of thing can only go on so long, and by 1353 it had been abandoned. The castle was then used as a prison until the 1800's when it became a textile factory. The government got its hands on it in 1887 and did what governments do -- it started taking the castle apart. When the World Exhibition came around 30 years later, the building was hastily re-assembled. Today it serves as a museum and arts facility.

In this museum called The S.M.A.K. you can see and discuss some contemporary art. Of course "les gouts, ca ne se discute pas", So I leave that in the middle. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Tatters told me that he had friends in Belgium, but had lost contact with them a
few years ago. He wanted me to see if I could locate them and give them an

I think I've found some legends about the city, but sadly there are no hunted castles here.
But I've tried to find some stories that you would like. I hope I do the translation well enough, I used Babel Fish, but it doesn't translate very much.

It happened in 1535 in a small street, now called the Crossstreet. On a stormy night there were two assassins in that street, keen on robbing and assassination.
Divine providence ensured however in a horrible manner that their cruel plans were thwarted. A bright lightning broke through the sky and chopped the cross of the St. John's church. The cross came down and crushed both thiefes. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" />

The "Decapitionbridge"
got her cruel and bloody name during the reign of Count Louis from Male. Two noblemen, a father and his son, had insulted the count. The count wanted to have some fun of his own and suggested that one of them could stay alive if he wanted to decapite the head of the other one. Eventually the son declared himself to give the final stroke. But again divine providence intervened and made the sword fly out of the handle.
