I share your feeling on that. Nature is always the first victim of the economy. There has been something similar in British-Columbia some years ago. People were cutting a rare, fragile and long-time-growing native conifer specie (a treasure!) and were even selling it on the black market. Things like that should just not happen in such developped and educated countries. That's unforgivable. But the worse case of all these kinds of stories is absolutely the case of the Amazonian forest, the lung of the earth.
