<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> Where is the human kind going? *sigh* At least I hope it follows the two girls and not that woman... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />
Here is another example of human incoherence. (Free translation of an article from the Agence France-Presse)
THE DONKEY AND THE DRUNKARD (Colombia, wednesday March 09, 2005)
“Pacho” was an anonymous donkey before the Arauca police put him in jail after being injured by a drunkard riding a motorcycle; bringing a national debate on animal rights.
Sunday night, as he was pulling his cart back to his stable after a hard day’s work like hundreds of other donkeys in the area do, “Pacho” was crash into by a drunken motocyclist and had his head and right front leg injured.
The motorcyclist being injured too, the police on place took the decision to incarcerate the animal, leting his owner go free.
“He’s innocent and, moreover, they imprisonned him in a fire station, despite the fact that he only wishes to get back to his stable” the owner, Nelson Gonzalez, a fifty year old peasant who lost his work mean since the accident, said.
The owner is even more offended because the police don’t take charge of “Pacho’s” food.
“It is a violation of the animal’s physical integrity, because he’s imprisonned in an indignant place” local defenser of man’s rights Alvaro Merchan says. “In this case, neither the law, nor the confinement conditions were respected” he adds.
“He’s not a wild beast and as he is no threat for people, he has to be released immediately” lawyer Carlos Mauricio Gutierres states.
Even if there are no laws existing for these kind of cases, police commander of Arauca Diana Rojas tries to justify the mean: “The animal is convicted because there has been man injury”.
While he waits for his liberation, “Pacho”, although he is in a miserable state, has became a star of the Colombian TV.
