Hi everyone
Apologies in advance for a long post...
I have played through the game all the way up to collecting the members of the Council of Seven, and have not rung the Bell yet because-- I still have quests hanging out there that I can't seem to solve!
One of two things happens. The first thing is (seemingly) just a minor annoyance: I complete a quest and get my reward(s) in experience or whatever the NPCs might want to give me, but then the Quest does not log itself as completed, and therefore, remains in my journal as unresolved. This is happening with the Marcus wanting information about his goods quest, which was long ago completed.
But the second thing that happens is sort of puzzling: I receive a Quest, but cannot seem to get the NPCs to have the correct dialogue with me in order to get them done, and move on to subsequent quests in the chain where appropriate. Specifically, this is happening with General Alix and Captain Mitox. General Alix "gives me the sealed letter" (although nothing shows up in my inventory, which might be the problem??), which I should then take to Mitox to solve that quest and then be able to get the quests to destroy the Orc invasion (poisoning the well and blowing up the supply train). But I get to Mitox, and have a short dialogue with him in which I ask what happened in the area, and why the Orcs began a war... and then... nothing happens! No message from General Alix to deliver, Alix keeps telling me I should go see Mitox because he must have an important assignment for me, and Mitox keeps saying something to the effect of, "Back so soon, freebooter? What can I do for you?" and me having nothing to say but, "Farewell."
I have never been able to receive the Orc quests from Mitox, they are not in my journal at all, likely because I seem to have no letter to deliver. The 'replacement items' help posts seem a bit over my head, and for the amount of gameplay lost by want of solving this quest after my progress through every other area of the game, I guess I should just skip over it, as I have already blasted the Orc Camp to smithereens by hand for the experience and weapon sales, and have passed through Stormfist Castle already by exposing the Duke's murder.
Additionally, and this is probably my fault, I cannot solve the Nericon's Garden quest. One night whilst trying to uncover all of Rivertown before proceeding to the Dark Forest, I managed to pick open the lock of Nericon's Garden *before* Blake sold me the key. Now, with Nericon's Holy Book in hand, and the unused key in my inventory (I have also tried taking all keys out of my inventory just to see what happens), and after killing the frogs and exploring the area behind the portal, I cannot get the statue to converse with me, therefore leaving this quest unsolved. Neither Blake nor the Cultists have anything to say about it, other than the Cultists telling me they don't want the key (when I ask why I should give it to them), they just want me to open the gate (but I cannot tell them it already *is* open). Is it because I used alternate means to get inside the garden? If so, well... that stinks for me!
Also, it is seeming to me that I cannot resolve the Trevor/Tingalf quest. I have the manuscript evidence from the sewer/thief base, but do not have the option of discussing my findings with Trevor (note though, that I have already had Tingalf arrested, and also, the Marcus quest never disappeared from my journal, as noted previously, although it was solved. Maybe one of these is the reason, or I am missing something??)
So I don't know what's going on... maybe a combination of my own mistakes, a stubborn journal, and what seems to be one missing item...
I have tried deleting everything in the Dynamic folder, but all it seems to have changed is that now everything runs at hyperspeed-- my character runs like a jackrabbit and all the animations are running in FPS overdrive (which, in itself is kind of cool, because apparently purging the files eliminated some sort of framerate slowdown I didn't know I was having), but it did not solve my unsolved quest/quest logging issue. Also, I went through the game only using the default 2 quicksave slots, so I have no savegames to revert to (and I am learning just what a mistake such a practice can be).
Does anyone know about any of these things/possible solutions?
