If an islam religious leader dies, he might get metioned in the news here, but when the catholic pope dies...
erm... sorry drag but that's not entirely true... when an islam religious leader (even an european one) dies it is very rarely mentioned in the news in europe except when he had also some official civil politics power or if he's murdered...
but even if it's a bit hippocrit it may be explained in the fact that islam is not a truly 'historical religion in europe'... well that's not absolutly true (nor absolutly false either), but it is perceived like that by many anyway.
but well... overmediatisation is one thing, fact that is behind another.
