Unlikely, there have never been three popes of the same name in a row in 2000 years of history. Whoever gets elected may choose his name freely.

Yeah, I've heard that the new Pope, Joseph Ratzinger alias Benedictus XVI is already 78 years old. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
Well, I have the feeling that we soon meet again on this tread <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />
Anyway, congrats to the Germans for the new worldleader!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" />

I don't like it much.
He's even more old fashioned and extreem than the previous one. Lots of people hoped they would choose a more "open minded" pope this time. After all the "troubles" the last one had with things like: women in the church, abortion, condoms, celibecy,... and so on.
This one is even more extreme on those subjects.
He was part of "the Hitler yought" when he was young.
That alone shows that the ways of the church are very strange.
I know that a lot of Germans aren't happy with this choice. A lot of people around the world aren't happy with it.
And again the church went against the will and hope of the people.
They showed again that they are still living in the dark middle ages.

I'm a traditionalist myself, and somewhat Catholic, but I don't like the selection <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

and so then?

He was 14-17 years old then... And that i know he was not the only one of the German to be there... I think this sentence is really insulting Seth, and even defaming.

As for Josef Ratzinger, he was once one of the most progressist priest that were... I think as Prefete of the Faith's Congregation it was his role to be conservative... I see the things from the outside but i don't think there is a meaning to the church if there is not an unity of the church's thought. OK, i'm not agreeing with that unity, i'm not in the church... simple like that!

I agree. A person who had made a big mistake when he/she was young can be forgiven more than 60 years later.
In that case, he was less than 18 years old and maybe it was not his own choice to be part of the Hitler youth.
