Except for the people who are ill, the brain still works very well at any age.
Getting older we loose some neurones but a brilliant and intelligent person will still be brillant and intelligent at 80 years old.

And be sure that someone who is not really brilliant at 20 years old will still be not really brilliant at 80 years old.
