Just for the record:
Benedict XVI was in the Hitler youth, because you were practically forced to join. He did not go to the meetings, which threatened the government money he got for schooling. He never was a member of the party (which someone in this topic has claimed). His family had to relocate because his father had openly acted against the local Nazis. Later, he was forced into the army, and deserted, which would have meant his instant death, if he had been found.
