@ La Fille -> it's ok, no biggie as when i came to this forum, i was totally a newbie in all that is internet interaction (chat, PM, etc). takes time to learn & even more time to learn of people.
@ Shan -> thanks.
@ Tsel -> have to hand it to u, not many can poke me with a moral poker. OUCH!
@ Barta -> Seth has my soul. i'm a sad wolfie.

@ Shan Everyone deserves some privacy in their lives and I can respect that. I also agree that why should I be required to tell every little useless detail about myself just to please everybody. Who asked to the forum members to tell things about their private life ? I am here since almost 2 years and i said very few things about my private life. Even in the PM, i don't talk about me. Sometimes i am shocked when the people are reveiling very private things about themselves or their family in public posts. The subject is about lies and truth in general and it is a very serious topic. @ La Fille It's a bit late for me to jump on the topic but I do it anyway No it's never too late to jump in any discussion. If you want you can jump in a very old topic of the chat for giving your opinion. I'm not used to these forum mentalities; it's the first time I register on a forum for the fun to participate. When I registered here, I was far from imagining it could be a kind of little family as it is here, and that it would make me feel like a little virtual home. It should be the same in all the forums. The forum is nice and friendly because the Larian's spirit makes it like that. Without the Larians always caring about their fans, the forum would be less friendly. Alrik has made a great topic about the online friendship. Internet friendship (Have a look at my great screenshot ! I forgot it and i laughed when i saw it again.) @ My dear Janggut @ Barta -> Seth has my soul. i'm a sad wolfie. Don't worry i will get back your soul very soon. Barta

@ Tsel - A thought that struck me when reading your post is: Is the personality you display here not less a "lie" than the personality you show in your professional environment, where you "forbid" yourself the display of - emotion, sensitivity, warmth? Because being as you are (or want to be), is not "appropriate" or "professional"?
Leadership requires respect (to be earned!), not love, and a certain emotional distance makes that easier - for some.

Though shall speak the truth, nothing but the truth, and the whole truth.
This is what they make you swear when taking an oath before a court. The last part is the most difficult.
What would I do, when somebody lied to me?
- Feel hurt; - Re-evaluate my trust; - question the motives of the lie.
I have lied (= not said the whole truth) for protecting - thinking that the truth would hurt someone I cared for (my personal judgement, conceded);
I have veiled the truth for protecting - myself.
No excuses - both instances are nothing to be proud of - but I think the most common issues enticing people to stretch, or bend, the truth.
In general - a German saying says "lies have short legs", and there is truth in that. When lying, you must be very careful that what you say is not easily disproven. Worse, you have to remember your lies! That's how most are found out - the tellers of the lies are not consistent in their stories, and start contradicting themselves.
It so much easier to stay honestly within the truth. You gain respect and keep trust. Invaluable in the long run.
So much for my - honest - opinion on the subject.

lies have fast winds in the beginning and short legs in the end... I mean a rumoring lie is very fast, but also will be ever catch by the truth... IMO...
only a slight "correcting" Glance, if you allow me (well even if you don't )...
ok i've read a lot of things about lying and forgiving and i must say i'm not convinced at all. I'm really not criticizing anyone here, but all these good feelings are good and well, but i know i can't be saying with certitude if i forgive or not without knowing what i forgive and there will be things i won't forgive.
By example if i learned a friend or a virtual friend was lying about his antisemitism i.e was saying explicitly he was not and was (i mean that i would learn he was) i w'm sorry but i wouldn't forgive in any cases.
And that's only an example.
Another aspect. There are lies which are not addressed to a person, but to a collectivity (community). These one should logically be forgiven "collectively". Is that possible. I'm not so sure. Anyway it doesn't has the same meaning than personnal forgiving.
also sometimes it is really best to cut all links with the person even after having being forgiving.

When I registered here, I was far from imagining it could be a kind of little family as it is here, and that it would make me feel like a little virtual home. It is even more unexpected that this is a game forum; it's been an amazing surprise to discover how rich and deep are the chat sections. Don't compare this one to other forums. We don't have regular/normal "forum mentalities". Just check out some others and you'll notice the difference very soon. In most others you'll notice fast enough that they're far from a "family". Just saying... don't expect to much of other forums now. You could get very disapointed.

Well, first, i would like to say, Barta i hope you are okay. I do not think you have asked this question out of curiosity... I would also like to say, at one point in my life (when i had more time!) this place was one of my favorite places to be. That is NO lie! I enjoyed the conversations, the story writing, and the friendships i did make here. Sadly, there are not as many people here that i know...a lot have left, and that does sadden me. Faile my love - i miss your pirate face! Jolie...my knight in armour. I admit, i did have some good times here. Not to mention support i got from people when i was going through a rather rough time. Anyway, Barta, i do not agree with lying! This is the one place (IMO) that you can truly be yourself. I had found my peace here. I found people like me, same intrests, etc, and, they seemed to accept me as who i was. Not that i am socially challanged or anything, i guess this was just a place for other fantasy type people to come together, who, for the most part, treat each other with respect. And, why should they not????? We are all people. No one is better than any one else! We all come into this world the same, and leave the same way. Anyway - that is my piece on it!
Barta, i hope whatever happened, you are okay, and will not become a part of the forum history as so many before you.

@ Carrie First i am very happy to have news from you. at one point in my life (when i had more time!) this place was one of my favorite places to be. That is NO lie! I enjoyed the conversations, the story writing, and the friendships i did make here. Sadly, there are not as many people here that i know...a lot have left, and that does sadden me. This place is also one of my favourite places (with the french Divinityfrance forum). Like you a lot of my friends have left : Lucretia, Kiya, GoldyLocks, jvb, Bernhard, etc. I hope they will be back some day. Barta i hope you are okay. I do not think you have asked this question out of curiosity... No i am not okay and i did not ask this question without raison. Since the beginning of february a member A of the forum sent me several PM telling me awful things about a member B. The member A looked scared and asked for help. I answered that i could not help him/her and i gave him/her the advice to tell the whole story to Lynn. It lasted 2 months but the member A never sent a mail to Lynn or to any Larian. I felt very bad. I could not talk to anybody because i did not want to spread gossips in the forum. Who is the lyer ? The member A or the member B ? Or the both members ? After the opening of the topic "About lies" the member A sent me a PM telling me "I am not a lyer" and the member B did the same ! Sorry for my friends but i had to close my PM box in the forum. I don't want to receive this kind of PM anymore. I love the forum and i will not leave it but i am very disappointed and very sad. Barta
