talk of electronica, i've been wondering about the future sound of it all; with electronica merging with all sorts of genre, which electronica itself was a child of many genres sampled in an aural soup.
now what about the movement of electronica? what i can see in movement of rock turn rawk radiohead, an 'alternative' group of sorts now turning into grey areas between pop, rock & electronica (on the obscure sampling & ambient sides). then there is this body of work of james lavelle aka UNKLE who's diversified in styles, but i am more impressed with his acoustic-electronica sampling styles. it feels 'live' & yet it's sampling all over.
electronica normally has that cold feel to it but
- Orbital (especially their early works) infuse that human-feel to their music.
- UNKLE somehow found harmony between electronic/sampling with acoustic performance.
- DJ Shadow with his retro trip-hop with very warm (think tube/valve instead of transistor) feel to his music.
- Amorphus Androgynous (especially the album Isness) with their retro funk feel which refreshingly feels 'natural' though u know it's sampled.
my favs are often always those who are not restrained by the genre they play in; rather they play without much concept of genre.
