truly impressive!!
but why am i feeling apprehensive about it? is it because of the realistic grass rendering very similar to the most recent Unreal? & the lush 3D environment which might mean smaller world but lots to see (meaning eye candy)? the trees ... i love the trees .... . just like Jurak, i wonder (& worry) just how much firepower is needed to run this? *sigh* this means i have to upgrade my system to Doom3 level in order to play this next-gen game?
i can only resist change so much but change as always is inevitable.
people, is this a true breakaway from sprites & 2D? is Larian burning the bridge after crossing into 3D territory?
best to save up for some spanking graphic card & i hope Larian will continue to keep the emphasis on the gameplay. It shouldn't be a problem. The Gothic games did the whole world rather nicely. I never had an issue with graphics bogging down my computer. I'm sure DD2 will run the whole game world just as efficiently. Other than that: Very nice screenshots! So, you dumped Marian at last and got a real 3D artist?
Well ... uh ...you know... err... i made that verdistis signpost (among a few other things). OMG, how mony polys?

This game has so much potential. I hope that they can build a game world as big as Divine Divinity with this new engine.
My God, I hope that they aren't planning on making this a console game too. If so, it will be dumbed down trash with a crap interface.

I wouldn't really worry about that. I realize I might be in the minority, but the console & PC work Bioware did on KoTOR, I thought was real good. If Larian opens the doors to that world then good for them; it will open a whole new world of possibilities for them as a company. I've seen Lars on numerous occasions looking at the DD2 suggestion thread. I'm sure we as fans will be very pleased. Tsel

Tsel I love Kotor, and it was a great game, but for different reasons. It was a licensed property with a terrific presentation and thousands of wonderfully voice-acted lines. The fact that it was an authentic Star Wars experience also played a huge part in its success. If Kotor had just been a generic Tolkien RPG, it would not have been as good. The interface was terrible when compared to gamees like Neverwinter Nights, Temple of Elemental Evil, and Divine Divinity. Kotor still would have been a lot better if the interface had been designed for the keyboard and mouse, and not analog stick+buttons. The game definitely suffered from its porting from the X-Box (Although you could make the argument that the production values wouldn't have been as good, since the X-Box sales would be needed to fund the professional voice acting, etc). Plus, Divinity is not Kotor, and I don't want another Kotor. I have yet to see a PC franchise that didn't get worse when it was moved to consoles. Deus Ex, Thief, Ghost Recon, etc. Keyboard and mouse are a huge asset to any RPG. Customization of hotkeys and pointing and clicking are essential. Any good RPG interface has to be built around that, unless they simply remove features from the game to make it shallow and simple. My opinion, at least.

Well it all looks amazing! These screens might not reach the level of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, but if the gameplay is as good as the original , the next RPG of the year is definitely heading our way. Good job Larian!

i'm looking at close detail to the pics , and i selected two segments of it: picture1, the left hand of the character on this image you see that part of the fingers dissapear in the armor itselve. also the wrist is a bit on the tiny side. it probably has to do with the 3d engine i don't know, because i never saw a perfect 3d body in games anyway. picture2: the shoulder blade the shoulder pad seems to be "hanging" above the shoulder itself And what are we seeing? is it our hero or is it some NPC in the game, because i remember correctly, DIV2 was in the first person perspective? annyway, there still great pics, keep up the good work!

@ Bean (who just exlored the pics inch by inch in great zoom): Right... You know, since it doesn't show in NORMAL size, does it matter?

Bean and others > This is about using Poser, but it will give you an idea why things worn are done like they are in 3D models. http://www.e-frontier.com/article/articleview/418/1/321/Tsel

Übereil its a x2 zoom ub, and you can see it in normal size Q: does it matter? A: Yes but not for the normal gameplay. i play games that are no more then text on the screen, or just a jibjab of pixels, and i liked them! What i'm trying to point out that if you take great care to make a game with the best possible fysics engine today, a state of the art 3d engine and the impressive speedtree software, it's in the details. i don't care mutch how the game looks in it's final state for my personal pleasure, i will buy it anyway, i'm a "friendsoflarian" like many other people here. just pointing some thingies out (as a fan, not a troll)

@ Bean: I noticed what you noticed too when I first saw the pictures, but you can't really pick on that now I think. Remember; these are not screenshots from the final version of this game! Be that as it may, I'll say it again: the pictures are stunningly beautiful, the only downfall is that they make the waiting for Divine Divinity II even harder

I'm yet to see a 3D engine that didn't have clipping problems at all. Half-Life 2 has a very good attempt to it but it's not 100% working.

I'm yet to see a 3D engine that didn't have clipping problems at all. Half-Life 2 has a very good attempt to it but it's not 100% working. The Doom 3 technology has almost no clipping problems at all, but no engine can reach the 100% working border. But well, in RPGs this is one of the things i don't except. Story, non-linearity, character development are more important imho.
