Macbeth, don't worry too much; cats are everything but helpless. I hope you'll have news soon. Is your cat sterilized, and did you have its front claws removed? I never had cats, but it happened to people around me that their would go away for several days. Sometime they even turned really "wild" and survived on their own, not wanting to come back to settle at human homes again. One was even fleeing his owners when they saw him some days after, even though they had always treated him very gently.
