Uncle Johnny is (not 'was' as his memory will live on) a cheerful guy who's full of smiles & funny stories from his childhood (he was a very mischevious boy) & folk lores & legends. he would at times snuck away from the wife to have a ciggy with my father since his wife wouldn't allow him to smoke (on doctor's orders). in family get-togethers, he would sing the loudest & he had a deep voice.

everybody loves him.

I have 4 very loved dogs.... 2 shar-pei's and 2 fox-terrorists.... I can assure you i will never use that on them....neither will i EVER chain them up, or leave them without food or water... they even get to sleep in the house, they eat more healthy food than i do most of the time, and they even have a heated kennel if they one day use it...

the dogs that i mentioned though... is not mine, but a neighbour who left them chained up at home, no food, no water... We have reported him to the animal anti-cruelty.. and they are prosecuting him...

And i had no choice... they are too big for me to go close so that i can feed them, and neither can i cope with the howling... Believe it or not... the anti-cruelty told me to do that until they could come fetch the dogs the next day.

as for using tonsil spray on babies..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> there is something better... panado syrup!!!! makes them sleep in no time <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> and its approved by doctors <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

Remains of the day....

Had a lovely and cool day... even if it was busy... but at least everything went well... today its just a few more things that needs to be done and then i am up to date again....

my little shar-pei monster is getting cute now (when he is not so naughty)... driving with me in the car when i talk alex to school.... with big laughter from the cars around me...

My garden service is finally coming again.... ( i have given up... this garden is just too big for me... i cant cope with cleaning 1600 meter squared by myself.... and hubby is too busy to help...)

My day went very smooth.... i got up, found myself in one of my infamous "gemini-get-out-my-way-i-am-cleaning" moods.... which bypass the normal morning shower/bath and even the getting dressed part... to find me spring cleaning anything i can find... which today happened to be the WHOLE front house.... everything except the kitchen and bathroom (which was done a week ago)...

So that went all therapeutic and well <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I felt sooo good afterwards.....

(now which of you suspect that there will be a "until" in this little story?!?!?!)

UNTIL....

Sudden sharp flash, followed instantaniously by a sulpher smell and a very very loud crack of thunder....

The damage from that lightning strike?????

1. No more tree across the street.
2. No more PCI-slots
3. No more ethernet controler
4. No more on-board sound
5. No more raid controler
6. No more Hard drives (all 3 x 250 GB's)

No all the rest i have NOOOOOO problem with what so ever... a couple of $$ and they all replaced..... 10 years worth of art collections, work, photos (including a slide collection of my parents in europe on their last tour with all the cathedrals that took me 3 months to scan the 4000 slides)

My 10 year collection of emails.... (yea my mailbox was about 3 Gb)
My educational study materials.... my IT projects i have been working on for 7 months....
My email adresses
My client database... my invoices.... EVERYTHING!!!!!

I even have to request my bush-baby's feeding plans again... along with all his other care-formulas and manuals... (trying to get that out of our wildlife preservation association is worse than trying to wrestle jet-lee for the last grain of rice)

Don't you have sockets with fuses? What you can learn from this is to start useing them <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />. Myself I use some kind of fieldsocket with a fuse, you put them in an ordinary socket and suddenlly it's a socket with a fuse.

(I might not have used the word(s) correctlly. The word in Swedish is Jordad, which means soiled.)

Every computer in this house is on a UPS... and we do have surge protectors on every plug in the house.... but a lightning strike THAT close to the house, goes through everything.... 2 UPS's are blown after that, the other 4 are still "fine" other than they get hot now.... but the insurance will sort all that out...

I am going through some of my backup DVD's, but i havnt had time to backup anything in the last 6 months... so all the new stuff is GONE.... but the rest i am finding bits and pieces of...

at least i am feeling better about it now... but still....

Doh! real sorry to hear that L_R, I know the feeling .... sometime back (and believe me that was sometime back 386 dx I believe) I went to format c to re-install the "new windows 3" and for some reason or another I formatted D instead, don't ask me how my dos has got a little rusty since then <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> but yeah I lost a lot of carefully collected fantasy art Images which I was lucky to rescue some from the disk, with a new fangled program (for those days) that was called "Norton's" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
But it was a helluvalotofwork at that speed <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

Heheheh yea i live in an area where lightning storms are PLENTY. and to make matters worse, we live on top of a mountain (less than 2k from the edge)... so if there is static, it will be somewhere around us...

I have most of my stuff back... minus the dvd-arts.... and my last work....

at the very least u are alright & i feel that is the good thing out of that bad situation.

@ Ube -> even with UPS, lightning strike that close to the house will fry almost anything which is why it's miraculous that our Lady Rain is alright. even a simple blackout if it happens often enough, your UPS will get fried as well.

On the weekend, I was helping my sister and brother-in-law move into their new house, which was half way across the state. We installed the heavy stuff, the wash machine, dryer and the microwave. The rest of the time was spent taping the corners of the walls etc. around the whole house while painting them.

true, VIrgo, one lightning strike can power a whole city for months so to fry computers is nothing for something that powerful.

Anyway we had the lightning strike nextdoors, TV's, Phones and networkadapters were all fried. of the whole darn block!!! So kids don't mess with kites and lightning, you'll stink!
