I've read that Belgium has 125 years anniversary ? And that they imported nederlandse fritten because Flamen und Wallonen could not decide which how much fritten each part of them should put into the fest ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />


I begin to think that the only thing that connects both parts of Belgique is that they don't like each other. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

We call that in German "Haßliebe" (hate-love).

It was the 175th anniversairy of Belgium and the 25 year of Federalism. 175-25 Belgien

And the reason that Flanders and Wallonië does not get along is very simple. In Flanders there is industrialism and thus work for every one, but in Wallonië theree is not much work left. So many people live there of social help.
But the working class pays taxes for them too, and many of them are just too lazy to work. If you go to Charleroi and parts of Brussels you will see the way those people handle their city. Not with respect because they vandalize it.

But it's not really a hate-love realtion we have, there have been times that it came close to something like a war between the two of them, but we also realize that Flanders on it's own is too small to survive, and Wallonië will just get bancrupt. So, we stay together (for the children <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> )
The part about the fries I've never heard before, but it can be true.
